24" neck
I'm buying a mustang body, and i think the best way to get a neck is probably to look on ebay for good deals.
So, can you guys tell me what 24" necks can i put on he stang?
mustang? jaguar? musicmaster? bronco? duo-sonic? something else?

Will work:
Mustang (the 22.5" version neck will also fit)
Jaguar (all should fit, including Jaguar HH)
Duosonic II (1965-1969, the 22.5" version neck will also fit)
Musicmaster II (1965-1981, the 22.5" version neck will also fit)
Jagmaster (original Japanese Vista series only)
Bronco
Jag-Stang
Warmoth also make replacement 24"
Will not work:
All other versions of the Duosonic (e.g. Squier CV, Squier MIM, Fender MIM version, etc.)
Squier Vista Musicmaster (actually a 24.75" neck)
Any Chinese made Jagmaster (uses conversion necks)
Not sure:
1950's to 1964 Musicmaster and Duosonics (I believe these only came in 22.5" scale, not sure if 24" versions existed then.)

The 22.5" necks from the late 60's (I think they stopped making them in 1969?) were actually conversion necks made to work on the 24" scale guitars of the era. This is not to be confused with the 22.7" scale necks on the 1990's Fender/Squier Mexican made duosonics, which are conversion necks made to work on 25.5" scale bodies.sp3k wrote:How can the 22.5" necks work?! will it intone?astro wrote:Will work:

Actually, this thread got me thinking about getting the lefty neck for my Bronco project, so I checked Warmoth. $157 doesn't really seem that pricy to me, honestly.
How much do you expect a neck to cost?

but i think it's +30 for the nut and +75 for the finish. That's more then 250, and i've seen necks with tunners go for less on ebayPens wrote:Actually, this thread got me thinking about getting the lefty neck for my Bronco project, so I checked Warmoth. $157 doesn't really seem that pricy to me, honestly.

i'm actually considering this one

Cutting a nut is insanely easy and simple. I've done two of them in the past month, one for my Jag and one for my SuperSonic.
The finish I can see being harder, though just doing some clear coat spray isn't that tough. I'd rather get it without a finish so I could decal it anyway.
Either way, I suppose you could be right. I just didn't find any necks on ebay when I searched.

Ugh. They chopped up the headstock.sp3k wrote:i'm actually considering this one

Fuck that. I'd rather have to sort a nut and spraying some clearcoat than having a jank ass headstock.

??sp3k wrote:i guess i could learn to do that stuff. I'll try and find how to do the clear coat thing, if it seems easy i'll probably end up doing it
1) Get cans of clear coat.
2) Tape off fretboard with painters tape
3) Spray neck with clear coat.
4) Let dry
5) Repeat 3+4 several times.
6) Polish
This is even easier with a satin finish.

Hmm. At the below cost it's exactly the same price as the Warmoth neck, and you still have to do the finishing and make a nut.
It sounds like I'm advocating the Warmoth thing, I'm not, I'm just leaning towards that since they actually provide a lefty version while Allparts doesn't.

Right, and you get more options at Warmoth, fret size and that. But add more for anything other than all maple. I was more wondering if people have tried/like them as a neck.Pens wrote:Hmm. I was looking Warmoth for bass necks this afternoon. You can pick between quite a few little details for free. For example with basses you can have a standrad 20 fret neck, an extra overhanging 21st fret, different inlay choices, your choice of fretwire. There are of course things that significantly bump up the price, like binding, but for standard features it's not a bad deal.
There is the potential for a massive wait time though. They took the piss when Mike ordered a Mustang neck. Went way past their estimate.

Shabba.
Yeah, I just did a search and found what Mike said about this. I wonder if it would go a bit quicker for me since I'm not asking for any finishing done?James wrote: There is the potential for a massive wait time though. Either way, I'm pretty much fucked on options myself, as they seem to be the only place to get a lefty 24" neck.
Thanks for the heads up on this, though.
