It's the neckfeel generally. That worn in feel like an old guitar.

That and people are poseurs. They're still great playing and sounding guitars.

I played quite a few of these in America. I was fairly impressed but not for the price.

They'd got fairly close to the worn in feel but something wasn't quite right. I can't remember the details as it was a few months ago but they still felt artificially worn in some ways. I think it was mostly to do with the way the body was painted. The back of the neck (the important bit) felt fairly convincing though.

I guess what I'm saying is they look a bit shit, in some ways they feel unconvincing, but they go most of the way to feeling like they're supposed to. It's a bit like eating Mexican food in Bolton. It's never going to be that authentic, but it could still do the job.

Yes, I was looking at a Strat in Dawson's on Friday. Just doesn't look right.

My thoughts exactly. They are too expensive but I think in terms of feel they get you 80% of the way to the real deal.

+1

I saw them in guitar center, stood there aghast at the atrocious "finish", laughed and walked away.

I thought these were just relic'd MIM classics? In any case I think that's what'd fit the bill you're describing.

All MIM Fenders are a rip-off now.

i have tried out a couple of the strats now and they have much better balance than a normal MIM guitar. when you pick the thing up, you can tell its lighter right away

I found the Road Worn necks really nice to play when I tried them... tho the relic-ing on the maple fb looks just as dreadful IRL...

The road-worn's have nitro finishes and are closer to vintage specs than the non-road-worn MIM reissues. Different colours on some models, too. I'd love to have a non-worn road-worn Jazz Bass in Fiesta Red... nitro finishes are my favourite on the back of necks when it comes to feel.

We have a line of guitars much WORSE over here. Belt sanded and finished in satin polyurethane for permanent preservation! Excuse the massive single image. :?
