I'm doing a project for college about the future of the electric guitar. Pretty sure someone made a pretty convincing post on here about the 60s been a shit hot decade for guitars (but I can't find it). Can someone give me some examples of new/great guitars from the 60s?

there's a lot of people would argue that the 50s was when the real innovations took place.

The 60s was when Mass Production started.
The 50s was when the Smart People Figured It Out.

I'd have to go with the 60s. Like Mike said- Mass Production is a huge part of that era. Thanks to that it made instruments cheaper to the buyer and arguably better quality. Some of my favourite designs came fom that era aswell. From the Jaguar down to the silly SEARS catalog guitars.
If you need more details for your resource I'd behappy to elaborate but it's currently 6am o.O

Yeah, the 50s was the real innovative period. In terms of models, most of my favorites from Fender and Gibson, at least, came in the 60s; Jazz Bass, Jaguar, Fender VI, Mustang, SG, Firebird; but really, the guts of the innovation that allowed those instruments to be designed developed by the 50s.

Since the Jaguar and Mustang came out in the 60's, I will have to go with that.

I would say 60s because of the innovations in guitar effects and amps as well as variety worldwide of affordable instruments

I'd say 60's as well ... when it became possible for us, humans, to buy mass production instruments to make mass production music...
Well I could use a 54 les paul gold top as well...

80's.
That was that last time new guitars were made and people had the balls to play them. Since then we've all been playing old guitars.

Agreed, people were doing all sorts of wacky new things with guitars back then.

Dear God, GPSelmer. At least Burke and Hare dug up the bodies while they were still warm.

'52-'59? Though I can see you docking the '52 points for the inverted trapeze.
The Flying V and Explorer are also 50s guitars, but not that ker-azy looking SG contraption.

Sad, but true, as Hetfield would say.

The electric guitar will cease to exist before someone comes up with a better model than the ones form the 50s and 60s. That may be my 26 year old "old man" bias, but I think it's true.

I think the late 50s to early 60s would be in truth, the period of the electric guitar as we know it becoming a truly established instrument and when everyone was trying to out-do the competition with it's products.
To be honest, it a good time now. What ever style of instrument you want, you can find a version to suit your pocket. OK, most of it is all based on 50s & 60s designs.....so back to my first point and I will shut up now!!!
