So I decided to undertake a project for myself during this cold cold winter.

I picked this Bronco up off ebay:

It needs some work, the neck needs to be refinished and I'm not sure what color I want to paint the body. Also the pickguard has seen better days so I'm going to pick up a new one.

Got a bunch of stuff from allparts/more ebay:

Reissue f tuners, 500k push pull audio taper volume pot, 500k linear tone pot, 0.022 uf cap, a new spring for the bridge since I figure after 33 years the old one might not be just like new. A seymour duncan jb trembucker pickup is in the mail. I guess I'll get some flack for planning to cut it up to fit it.

So what color do you guys think? Any tips on refinishing the neck? I'm not sure what to do about the decal, don't wanna lose it, but to get an even color I might have to sand in that area. Anyway, I figured I'd start this post to keep myself motivated to follow through all the way and not cut too many corners. Oh, also any have a picture of this bridge taken apart, how exactly does it work? Just curious before I dig in, it's gotta come off to paint anyway.

The colour is fantastic! I'd leave it.

Also, what's wrong with the pickguard? I can't see in the picture very well, is it broken? If it's just scratched, you could most likely make it look like new by sanding/buffing/polishing.

Don't touch the colour and see if you can find someone to make a slightly yellowed pearl pickguard

Haha I'm undecided about the color although I agree it looks pretty good with the black. The pickguard is cracked at the bottom left screw and has some epoxy on it for what seems to be no reason. Ill try to restore but it might just be easier To just grab a copy.

Any thoughts on how to handle the neck?

OR, there's this guy who sells NOS late 70s black bronco guards, with pickup and wiring and all for around $160... just in case!

Pat.

btw, isn't this the bronco our own DGNR8 was selling here too?

So I've clear coated the neck:

I tried to toss the re-issue f tuners in to the neck, but the hole in the 1970s neck are too small. Anyone know the diameter I need to drill the holes out to?

Nice reference shot. Irrefutable proof that mint pickguards are ftw. I miss that Bronco(the MM too, actually).

EDIT: Just one more thing to add,
