I'm a noo-b to all things shortscale/jaguar/jagstang and I was wondering if I could get advice and if possible a comparison (advantages/disadvantages) between these two types of guitar.
I would also be interested to find out how different (in terms of tone, neck profile etc) each of these guitars would be to my current Mexi' 72 tele custom (Fender HB at neck, SC at bridge).
If there's an existing 'sticky' or forum area where I might find this info' then I apologise for posting here
Thank you,
Mike

It's worth having a read through wiki section mike.
They are very diffent guitars, in fact other than the shortscale neck and top horn I'd say the jagstang is nothing like jag.
The jagstang is a guitar people love or hate, the jag is admired by most because it's pretty but some people find them problematic/idiosyncratic and don't have the patience for the guitar.

they both have good and bad points.
imo....
the jag has the better trem.
the js has a better neck.
the jag looks better.
they both have sounds that are love/hate and in some ways limited - both sound very different to tele custom.
people used to teles/strats often hate the switches on both.

the jagstang, to me, is more mustang than it is jaguar. the jagstang's very percussive and dark sounding. it's a club for smashing you in the head. the jaguar is a precision weapon.
i like them both a lot, but jaguar is my forever.

Despite the similar bridges and scales they feel pretty different. I partly put it down to the profile of the Jag's neck... when I'm playing my JS or a Mustang neck I think "this thing is small", on the Jaguar not as much. The string tension is also a lot different because of the Jazzmaster tailpiece/bridge assembly. Of the Fender shortscales the Jaguar is the odd one out in terms of feel, to me anyway.

Hi,
Thanks for all the replys - all good stuff.
Something i'd like to hear more about - is how different they sound to my tele custom - and maybe an example track that has a very specific js/jag sound/solo.
I don't know if this makes sense, but I had been considering a semi-acoustic (a casino or similar), but then the whole js/jag issue was brought up by a friend of mine (who has a jag h/h - which he doesnt like at all). I'm also looking at the Schecter Ultra - in comparison to the js/jag. Does any of this make sense
Thank you,
Mike

Both different to a Tele custom, Jag sounds more trebly/cleaner/less sustain and the JS sounds darker/more bass/maybe less sustain.
