So, I have got an stratocaster body from here, and a telecaster neck (is shipping towards me).
And now I am putting a 'project' together.
Maybe its a bit boring, but since I sold my strat, I kind of miss it.
I am thinking of getting the cheap GFS 'pre-wired' HSS pickguard..
And some Gotoh tuners with the nice 'mother of pearl' peg.
I am a bit stuck on the tremolo and some other details.
And the neck astro gifted me has got an 'broken' nut, as I understand.
In the great shops of latvia couldnt find one, where should I look?
And maybe just throw this 'strat' thing off and make it a telecaster.
But I kind of want to use the body I have.
would look something like this .
Just the humbucker, and as I understood the neck heel should be 'adjusted' to the stratocaster body.
any advice on my first project?
things I should be aware?

Strat and Tele neck heels are different - you'll probably need to shape either the neck heel or the neck route in the body.
EDIT sorry you know that already - damn stealth posting at work through a tiny window

Actually, I was looking at the neck as I was packing it up to send you. I'm not sure the nut is broken, or at least it didn't look broken when I looked at it. I think I might have remembered wrong... I do believe the nut is too high, though. That means that you could just lower it and still use it. I'm not 100% sure but that's how it looked when I was packing it up. I hope that's the case because that would make it a lot easier to fix up.
If you do need a new nut, a pre-slotted Fender nut will NOT work. The fingerboard radius is much flatter than on anything Fender has ever made. I think the radius might even be a bit flatter than on a Gibson neck. So you might have to get a straight and flat nut blank and custom shape it to the neck.

(bump)
this may be the world slowest guitar project, but my moniez come slow.
so this is how far I am.. with all the great deals on shortscale etc.
Next up electronics.
Now im thinking two humbuckers or HSS..
(I may go for the most cheapest option and choose the pre-wired GFS sets)

sorry, i got a tickle out of that and seeing Vox, Apple and Apple on the deskizodiak wrote:but my moniez come slow.
[yes, the amplugs are cheap fun i know]
Personally the GFS pickups that come in those prewired guards are garbage. I did the same thinking it would be a quick fix and something new/fun. The stock squire pickups [alnico magnet] were miles better than the gfs [ceramic magnet] pickups. The pots, switch and wiring was all done for you, which was a plus for me at the time, but nothing of great quality.
If you just want to finish the project to be finished with it then thats a "drop-in" solution but personally i'd go with picking a guard, pots and switch and wiring it up yourself and putting better pickups in.
haha, yes, some stuff gathered over the years.
(monies come and go)
I was just blown away by the price, but that brings the quality down.
I understand.
Then I will probably go with humbuckers and do some 'coil tapping'.
That should sound interesting..
And Im thinking about the color to keep the white with shell-pinkish underneath (for an aged trashed look)...
or recolor ir Daphne blue or something like that,um.
