I want to change my volume control into a tone. HOW?

I have a 1 pickup/ 1 volume guitar but I'd rather have a tone control. Will I be able to change it simply by swapping the volume pot out for a different type?
I can post a wiring diagram if required.
Thank you

As far as I know, you just need to stick a capacitor on the existing pot. Easily done, but you'll need the capacitor.

Changing the pot won't change anything. I think Paul ees correct.

Know anywhere that I can find a wiring diagram and/ or info on the correct value pot and resistor to use? I searched online but could only find diagrams for a 1-volume setup.

what is the value of the pot now? 500K?
just basically buy a tone pot (b curve) that is same (500K) and grab a bag of resisters from some electronics store and then experiment..
at least.. that is what i do..
but i'm not the most.. how do we say.. technical, and "vintage correct" guy around..

Yes, the volume pot is currently 500k. I suppose I could just look inside my Explorer and see what type of resistor is inside that.

Dimarzio-branded potentiometers are £7 each, is there any reasoning behind buying them? I assume a pot is a pot?

You don't need a linear pot to wire a tone control, I'm pretty sure most people use audio taper on Fender circuits and stuff. Just use the one that's currently the volume.
I'd advise against buying guitar company-branded pots, there's always a silly mark-up.
