battery powered string winder...wtf?
who is that fucking lazy that they need one of these to string a guitar.
this is almost as lazy as the gibson robot guitar.

I could see it in a guitar shop since you could speed up the stringing/set up process, but would never use one just for stringing my guitars at home.

I've seen most techs and store employees using these. I don't have a winder of any kind, so even this would do something for me. :]

he's the type guy who also uses a footstand and is learning classical guitar and music reading to be able to rock the fuck out with an electric.

If you have ever tried to string a 12 string guitar, this would be nice.

I'm with you on that one. I have a few string winders sprawled about the house but a drill would still save a lot of time one 12 strings as cheeky as it is

Yeah I use string winders because I dont like to sit there for 2 hours working on it. I like restringing guitars, but not that much. This would be nice for changing strings the day of a show or something, or as mentioned before if you are a tech or have a 12 string. I don't think its about being lazy, I think this is a speed tool.

what are these things like twenty bucks or something? CHEAP. I almost bought a Planet Waves string winder that had a tiny chromatic tuner and string cutters for $20. it does have a "Look at my guitar's POWER TOOL" feel to it though

Try restringing a 12 string Rickenbacker before saying that.





Because the recessed area is so shallow and inaccessible from the back, half of the strings must be completely unwound down to the peg by hand to even get them off of the pegs, as you can't simply chop and unravel the recessed strings, and trying it will likely result in scratching the finish off a lot more paint than one would like. I've been restringing my own guitars for over 20 years and it took me 90 minutes to get the dang set off my 360-12 and wind up by hand on my first attempt when it arrived at the SoCal house...As I hadn't a tool in sight to work with.

The one taylornutt posted looks perfect, but my wrist is totally cool with motorized stuff just the same.

Yeh, you're pretty much out of luck finding shortcuts to unstringing the inside strings on a Rick 12, especially if you have the "R" tailpiece where you hook two string-ends in each slot.

Stringing's not bad tho, if you use a capo to clamp the new string to the neck so it doesn't fall out of the tailpiece slot while you're threading/winding the tuner. Stringing the tuners-in-slots is a matter of rotating the hole so you can get the string-end in, rotating it again so you can feed more string thru without hitting the back of the slot, eyeballing how much slack it will take to give you a decent amount of string to wrap, and then crimp-snip-windwindwind as usual.
