First thing I thought was "DEAN???" and "PLAYMATE????" but the guitar was cool. And cheap.

nned to buy 1 and get a new guard and drop a p-rails into the bridge with just 1 knob to blend the pup, no volume or tone knob.... throw some 12's on it and rock the fuck out.

I was thinking new guard as well, but I was thinking duo-caster.

The used one is only 65. gears are turning...

It's got potential. Agree on the pickguard change. Something about the neck thickness and headstock looks a little lumpy to me but that's being picky. For that money I'd do it over a mini strat anyday.

I want the hell out of that thing. 'd get the black one, toss in an EMG (same pickguard +dremel), done.

What a trip! I looks like a cross between an Ernie Ball Musicman (the headstock - sort of), a shorter scale Duosonic, or Ric 325 (scale length), and a Squier Mini-Strat!

Same scale as my Squier mini, but this thing has personality! I love this scale length and the duo-caster thing sounds great. I tried it with my last mini but used a humbucker for the bridge, was too over the top for me. My current one is 3 singles, but I've always had the itch to do a Mustang layout, minus the trem. May do that with next one ( yes, loves mini's!)

That looks sweet (link). Too bad none of the local GC's have em in stock. :?

2 star rating makes me wonder; the tiny epiphone is 5 (fanboyism?).

Also this playmate looks better for rawk: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Dean-Playma ... 1452636.gc

Too bad the little Ibanez and LTD's are $200 and $250, respectively. A signature travel guitar. Goddamn ESP.

If I got it, I'd drop a 5 way switch in place of the three way to handle coil splitting the hums. I'd probably put GFS loudmouths in it, cuz I love those damned things.
Black hardware ftw.

Yeah this thing'd need some rude pickups for sure.

I'm debating between something like this vs. a rondo of some sort. Maybe do both. +1 to black hardware.

my local gc has these lagunas in stock and on sale for $79. I know because I just played one, loved it and bought it on the spot. Lol.

Total impulse buy... This is why I should not go to presidents day sales.

This is actually a really neat little instrument. It's replaced my last travel guitar which is now for sale in the classifieds.

It's string through, which is nice for a bit more string tension since it's so small. Bridge is decent, tuners are poo poo and will be replaced. Pickups are meh, standard crapo humbuckers. This thing needs some high power pups to make it the shredder it wants so desperately to be. The neck heal is angled giving great fretboard access, this is definitely intended to be a shredder trainer/travel guitar. Comfy comfy neck. Love it. After a bit o work, I'll be very happy with it.

Oh, and in a weird turn of events... the fret dressing on this thing is beautiful. They are perfectly manicured, better than most Squier or even Fender fretwork I've seen. Very impressed with that. Completely playable right out of the box, though I do need to lower the action to suit and put some manland string on it instead of teh rubberbands it shipped with.
