My brother is looking to buy a used keyboard amp and asked me what he should look at. I don't know anything about keyboards or keyboard amps, so any insight would be greatly appreciated. He's looking to spend around $250-300 for a used amp. Something that can keep up with a band would certainly be a plus.
Thanks

i've found bass amps work quite well. also, it depends what sort of keyboard he's using. from experience, i'd say if it's a vintage keyboard a tube guitar amp is best. if it's modern and has, say, realistic piano sounds you'll want something with decent fidelity.
Thanks Stewart. The keyboard player in my band plays through a bass amp with analogue synths, and it sounds pretty good. He mainly plays bass lines and such though, so cutting through vs a bassist isn't really an issue for him. My brother has some newer stuff though, he's got an Alesis Ion and some korg thing. He seems to like playing organ type sounds and weird sequenced stuff a lot, so it sounds like a bass amp might not be the best thing huh?

I've always heard bass amps were good. For some reason I'd imagine a Roland Jazz Chorus would work well too, or the cube. Dunno why. Maybe it's their reputation for being astonishingly loud and for representing what goes into them very cleanly.
for practice I used 2 of these...but then again I don't have to compete with a full band or real drums...these sound amazing by the way...roland cm-30...they double as a PA and studio monitors...

wow these are $200 a piece? for 400 bucks you could get a real PA system
i would FUCKING LOVE IT if my powered monitors had speaker outs on them like these roland things do.
