If ever there was a pedal poll less likely to get any worthwhile responses. Sorry old thing - not beloved of shortscale, the tubescreamer.

fran beat me to it. the TS7 is the best.

it's the exact TS9 circuit plus boost switch for like $20 - $30 used.

Agreed. Although the TS7 is the only screamer I've owned and have since sold it. It's close enough to the real thing apparently, has a HOT MODE and is about £40 new

The boost switch supposed to engage TS9DX mode. I love Tubescreamers, fucking awesome pedal combined with a decent amp.

Fran, do I not recall you in a Doogfest video review not enjoying one and accompanied by fellow jeers and what not?

Are you saying you like Tubescreamers for Lent or something or am I on the wrong wavelength?

they're all slight variations of the same circuit. with the dx all your bases are covered.

I pointed out they lacked low end, which they do. But i also said they are good with a decent amp, which they are.
The thing is, some pedals sound great in certain scenarios. The Tubescreamer is a gigging guitarists pedal, its stood the test of time and is as popular as ever because of this. Truth is a lot of pedals turn to shit at loud volumes, they drop you out of the mix and totally mask the characteristics of the gear you are using.

Sorry to "tar you with that brush". I'm still a bit undecided I suppose. While I was actually playing in a band I didn't use one and then I bought a TS7 while bedroom playing which I have done to this day. I suppose it wasn't the right application, sounded good sometimes, bad others but I ended up selling it. However the hot mode was great fun.

I've had a good ole TS9RI for a while now. I never never use it but I've had a bunch of them (fuck knows why, I love bassy guitar sondz). Standard TS9 with a nice JCM800/900 stylee amp and you can really do some cool stuff. Aanndd I like to bang the tone all the way up and then use it for a glitch/solo thing with my Synth Wah, that pedal seems to react really well/badly with the TS's.

I still hate them for every day useage, the low end suckage is so bad its gotta be the worst I've heard from any pedal ever ('cept the PW-2, Errrgg). Branch out and find the real deals.

Plus your poll doesn't include an other option. I say boo to that.

Actually you said Maxon, check the SD-9. That pedal is fucking wickkkked.

what's to hate about that? that's like hating squier because the CV tele is comparable to more expensive models. just buy the cheap one.

It's because people pay outrageous sums of money for a turdscreamer clone when you can get the same thing for much cheaper. I love what squire is doing because i like those instruments and would never pay an extra grand for, say, a fender 62 ri when the squire is in the same ballpark

i'd had a TS9 for a while, now in the hands of chisa. it was great, as fran says, for cutting through a band. i definitely miss it for soloing, as i didn't have to crank my volume up, just click the TS9 on and blaze away. worked really well with my strat and fender amp, both lacked mid range, which the TS9 gave me back.

Sill thinking of getting one again. though i'd probably go the TS7 route.

Really not a fan of a pedal that sounds nothing like a natural amplifier overdrive.
