Hi guys,

This is my first post on your forum, so hello to all!

I have just made my first purchase towards my Fender Bronco project... A black New Old Stock Loaded Pickguard!

My aim is to buy and restore a Fender Bronco (Black) and have a supply of spare parts to keep it running for a long time to come.

So if any of you out there have any Bronco parts for sale let me know. (ps i'm UK based)

I will post pics when it arrives, it was on eBay, so most of you will have probably seen it before.

I may have sourced a Bronco in the UK, it started life as red, but has now been stripped back to a natural finish. How difficult is it to do a DIY spray on the guitar, I was thinking of finishing it of in Black.

first thing to do is go here: http://reranch.com/basics.htm and do some reading. you should be able to source everything you need in the uk, although you'll probably have to order some of it online.

Thanks for that, i'll have a look. Are there many success stories on here about people doing DIY resprays?

yeah theres a few of people on here who have done really good refin's
its all about preperation, patience, decent paint and having a good clean space to do it in
have look on you tube and look at some of the treads on here
recently a guy refinished and put racing strips on a vintage mustand and it looks soooo good

do an search for threads by "rodvonbon" or "DGNR8" and you're bound to come up with more than enough to inspire you.

broncos are the new les pauls are the new jaguars (are the new teles).

Thanks very much guys, I'll have a good look over all that info.

On a side note, what would you say a god price for a 1978 Bronco would be? It doesn't come with the original case, has been stripped to bare wood. But apart from that it seems to be in good condition.

And on another side note should this model come with one or two string trees on the headstock?

I havent fround any pirctures of Broncos as young as this, but all earlier ones seem to come with only one string tree?

that looks amazing. being that it has no case, strat knobs, no finish on the body (but really nice condition), i would've paid $500 or so, but i'm a mega-cheap/poor bastard.

plus it's got the less-desirable chunky neck.

The guy that I'm gonna buy it from want £550 ($840) for it, do you think that is way too expensive? Bearing in mind it is in the UK and the UK's prices are generally higher for these type of things.

I think that the strat style knobs, are original to this age, as I have also got a complete 1979 loaded Bronco stratchplate that has the same knobs on it.

yea you need to sink in 40 bucks right off the bat on 2 bronco knobs.

yea mid 77' era and on broncos had strat knobs

What are the differences between the chunky and non-chunky neck? Does it affect playability much? Also anyone any the wiser about the two string tree situation?

The chunky one is chunky and the non-chunky one is non-chunky. It affects playability with regards to how chunky/non-chunky a neck you can get on with.

i think £550 for a bronco of that period with no finish is way too much. £350-400 max, and even then considering what you'd have to spend on refinishing materials, i'd think twice.

and two string trees would be right for a late 70s one.

i said i wouldn't pay that much for one without the mentioned items. i didn't say no one else should.

i was under the impression bronco knobs were cheap based on how they've been falling out of everyone's asses round here.

you mean to tell me that all those knobs mike threw on his pedals cost $20/ea?

i don't care if they came with strat knobs or not, i wouldn't buy one with them for more than the price i stated (as well as with no finish).
