Just picked up a £20 small clone chorus... and now feeling guilty about departing with my MBM Tremelo/Vibrato.
I'm in a massive Smiths phase at the moment and I felt the chorus sounds would get more use but now I just don't know.
I guess time will tell, but out of interest what you opt for given the choice ?

definitely Tremelo. It is one of my favorite effects. I have a Lightfoot Labs Goatkeeper for super awesome tap tempo sequenced effects.

Tremolo definitely. I sold my Small Clone to a friend and haven't missed it, but still have my Tunamelt.

if i had one space left on my board i would put the other pedal on my board of spares and switch them out when i need/want to. i can't pick and choose between anything ever.
also where did you get a small clone for £20 from.

ehnn I never have a craving for chorus, and I can't think of many songs where it sounds good (I'll probably get blasted for this, of course there is a few... Cocteau Twins use it on everything). Tremelo is way better.

I've never noticed much chorus on Smailts songs, but then maybe I haven't been listening right.
I like both tremolo and chorus, both have their uses and I have both a chorus and tremolo on my pedal board - Ibanez CCL and Made by Mike Salt Shaker, which Mike very kindly made for me with an extra volume knob on the outside - it rules. I used to hate chorus though, until I got a Small Clone - but even that was replaced by the Ibanez Chorus which sounds amazing, and it only cost me £25 and a cycle ride to Baker Street to pick it up.

Is there anything with somewhat close to the functionality of the LL Goatkeeper? It has the coolest features i've seen. But a bit pricey.

i've never been able to get a chorus sound with out it sounding cheesy. though i've mainly used the newer boss units, which tend to be a little harsh sounding. ideal would be a chorus that would give that sense of movement in the sound, but sea sick inducing.
tremolo is a great effect, used faster and less choppy is great for adding texture to chords. i do find when i've used tremolo live, it gets lost in the mix easily though that's just my experience.

depends on what features are most important. The Empress tremelo has tap tempo and sounds great but it can't do the sequencing or waveshaping of the Goatkeeper. One thing about the Goatkeeper is that it has capability of doing the most choppiest square wave I have ever heard in a tremelo pedal, as well as other great waveforms (and fully customizable with user set waveforms). So even if you turn off 3 of the 4 sequence stages and use it as a basic tap tempo tremelo, it is the best simple tremelo pedal I have tried.
The ebay prices for used GK's are obscene but wait around for the GK version 3 which Lightfoot Labs is currently working on and should be released in a few months.

I just think the whole pedal is great. I think the sequencing is the coolest part. Like how it can change the temo of the tremolo.

In that case, then there is no other substitute.
The goatkeeper is one of the rare pedals where it is cheaper to buy new than used. The hard part is snagging one before they sell out. But the next run should be a substantial quantity and my guess is that it will not be too hard to get one.
