I managed to find a CV Custom to try out and it was lovely. I was very impressed with the finish, the look and more importantly the sounds. The neck is really lovely to play. Here of some pictures I took last night:
and here is a picture someone else took under the hood so to speak:
so plenty of scope for upgrading if necessary.
Its a lovely guitar and surprised by the set up straight off the shelf (shop said they hadn't touched it other than to tune it)

geez i think i'm gonna have to sell my wonderful 80s fernandes tele custom (with nasty ugly pointy headstock) and get one of these instead.
delicious.
they're SO on the right path... bravo!
a mini hum (firebird, maybe) in the neck and you don't even have to chizzle. wow
Pat.

Very nice wood grain on the 'under the hood' pick. Nice looking thing, I agree the humbucker routing gives a mass of upgrade options. Good find!

I think im in a race with hotrod to buy one of these... you just wait...
if i were to get one it'd get a novak WRHB in the neck
and some twwaaanangy bridge pickup.
that thing looks incredible, i love squire for this. HAET fender because they have done NOTHING cool like this in recent times

The stock pickups are pretty impressive and I'm going to see how it plays for a month before I think of any replacement pickups. One thing I will look at are brass compensated saddles and a 4 way switch. Then the neck humbucker would be the next option.
For the money it is an amazing guitar. I haven't stopped playing it since I bought it on Saturday. Even the mint green pickguard isn't as lurid as I thought it would be.

No its chromed at the moment. Not bad but the brass one will add more to it.
HotRod, the neck pup isn't that bad on this and I think if I get a 4 way switch to make both pickups run in parallel and series then I might be able to get some nice sounds out of it.

I lol'd when I saw the humbucker route with a pickup mounted in it's screw channels. That's how all mexican standard bodies are routed (so either a humbucker or tele neck pickup can be mounted from the pickguard), and when I did my tele I screwed the neck pickup into the wood the same way, the screws can barely go into the wood at all because the bucker route + screw channels + long screws required for wood-mounting are some holes in the back of your body waiting to happen. I remember thinking "this is so ghetto, I should fill in at least the channels but nah that sounds like it'll take awhile".
Guitar looks awesome anyway.

raging boner. When I finally get the Love Buzz, I might sell my twin reverb and nab one of these, as well as some other sweet shit.
