Recommend me a simple twin humbucker guitar

I find SGs a bit ungainly. Would like a set neck if possible.

They're about the perfect simple twin humbucker guitar. Simple and solid as fuck. Good guitars.

I had an Ibanez SZ320 a while back. The SZ series is pretty solid. It was a lot of fun to play, but the stock pups are shite. I swapped those out and put Sperzel tuners in as well. I think all they make these days is the SZ520, and I think it only comes in flamed maple with a transparent finish. You can probably find a 320 somewhere pretty easily.

Woot. Interesting suggestions dudes. The Ibanez SZ320 is too metal for my tastes though, and Rob the Epi is too similar to the sort of underachieving indie rock guitar I already own.

what about lie the westbury's ahd gordon smiths that Fran and them all talk about... I am not sure of the price on those over there.
The ibanez ones though are great for the money. I bouhgt one for my dad for xmas a few years ago and play it when I go home. I always want to glossy up the neck a bit and change out the pups, but his is the cheapest model. The next one up had better sounding pups.

If you're into mini-hums, the Gretch Electromatic series is one of the best built guitars I've ever played for the price. The pups take some monkeying to get the right height, and they're not especially high output. They do sound good though, very dynamic for hums once you get them dialed in. Only real issue is that there isn't a replacement hum that drops in. You'll have to do some mods or go the P90 route.

What sort of bugdet are you looking at?
Ibanez makes some really nicely priced guitars and I'd recommend them.
Otherwise what about a Tokai or Edwards LP?
Or Yamaha SG? Love those things.

My bass player has one of these which I've played briefly, albeit unplugged. It was really comfortable to play and from what she's said it sounds great too (and it must be REALLY great to sound good through her Vox AD50VT).timhulio wrote:I find SGs a bit ungainly. Would like a set neck if possible.

here is my GAX70
it's one of my favorite guitars I've ever had. well made. I really like the location of the 3way switch. the bolt-on maple neck is very sturdy. I've knocked it over or dropped it many times with naught a lick of damage. I haven't played a lot of ibanezes but I imagine this neck profile to be something of the common thin ibanez variety. I quite like it. the neck is very snuggly fitted as well, I would rate it with a good amount of sustain. the stock pickups aren't bad but you can easily replace them if they're not to your taste. it has alpha brand mini pots that work great. the 3-way switch may be worth replacing, as it's the type where if you bump it, it flicks to the center.

the "G" in the model number denotes ibanez's "Gio" line which is like their squier. so there are AXs as well, like the AX120 which has a dot and bound neck and the headstock looks more like a proper ibanez artist headstock. basically the AX/GAXs are like an SG version of the ibanez artist.
