was patroling the tubes when i saw 2 vintage sgs for (what i percieve to be) cheap. i'm not able to buy a new guitar untill may or june, but just for fun i've been trying to figure out which one would be better for me/ which would be a better investment. in one corner we have an sg deluxe from either 1969 or 1970 apparenally one owner, original except the bigsby is removed. not clear if it's included. price is 1600. it's cherry red. in the other corner is a refin white 1962 sg special with non original hardware, 1400 bones. i enjoy both p-90s and humbuckers, i stand to inherit a 1968 non reverse firebird III so i'll have my p-90 fix eventually. the refin scares me, but it's 7 years older and 200 dollars cheaper. which would you go for?

Frank Hardy had an SG. It's an SG Custom with the center pickup removed.

a community? all I see is one (1) person saying your post is too long.

this is a message board with a wide variety of members all with their own views and opinions. we don't post by committee, just 'cause one person says something doesn't mean it's the consensus of the entire community or even a generally accepted view of the community. it's just one person's opinion.

poast pix, the special sounds rad. I'd try to talk them down from the price and pull a "shittay refin, non original hardware" (that will most likely not work) and run with it.

wasn't trying to speak about the board as a whole i have just run into it a few times in my brief time posting here. didn't mean to offend anyone it's just kind of unnecessarily snarky tone that some people seem to come off with, i mean sorry if i got too sensitive.

im a sucker for that style of deluxe. i love the disconnected pickguard/control plate. the special looks ace too.

I'm usually not an SG person but both of those are fucking rad!

they seem super cheap too, if only they'd popped up in may.

yeah, those are both really cool. I would personally go for the '69. just love the styling on that era of SGs.

I second this. The colour combination on the refin isn't really my thing... It looks good! Just not to my taste...

how good of deals do they seem to be to you guys?

I'd go for the 69 deluxe without a doubt.
