Jaguar bass body. good price?

Post by damienblair17 »

There's a Jaguar Bass body on teh bay right now, supposedly with all the guts and electronics? I am reading this correct yeah? All that's needed is a neck, and presumably any jazz bass neck will do? This seems like a pretty nice deal if I can source a neck. Also would probably change the pick guard. Don't like the tort.

you can get those used all day long for 500, you can't drop in a jazz neck without moving the bridge, and frankly that body doesn't look to be in the best of shape

Why do you have to move the bridge? It's 34" scale.

It's basically a jazz bass with different horns and wiring.

Though I should add that the main reason he shouldn't move the bridge is that he shouldn't buy it.

I can understand parting it out if the seller fell in love with the neck but couldn't get on with the rest so is keeping the neck. This guy is just parting out for extra money. With a matching headstock that's just silly and greedy. It's not a great price either.

I was thinking if I could get a neck for like, $100, then it would save me about $100 on the cost of a whole Jag bass. But I really want the matching headstock the more I think about it. I'll just wait and shell out for the whole thing.

plus blocks  no binding though, thats a big let down for me.
dont skimp out on the neck, imo the neck is the most important part of a bass

Because of poor balance?

yeah, i've not had extensive experience, but i played one for about 30 minutes or so at Big Dude's, and i just found it cumbersome, and overly neck heavy. at the time i was using my tbird a lot, and thought i had the most awkward bass imagineable.

I made an overlay image once. They're close enough that if you cut the horns on a Jazz bass back you could make an 'accurate' Jaguar bass. So that loss of the top horn is going to make it seem like it has a longer and heavier neck.

I'd quite like the idea of a Jaguar bass if it was done better than Fender have done, but I'd still rather have a normal Jazz for that sort of reason.

Not to get too off topic but i'd say if i had the need for a bass i'd get a Jaguar bass and make the wiring similar to that of a real Jag's

Jaguar basses are sweet. I bought a brand new one for $480 when they were on sale right before Christmas. They are neck heavy but you get used to it.

It also has a crazy thin neck. More so than MIA or MIM Fenders. Same neck as the Geddy Lee though.
