I actually quite like this guitar and would not mind bidding on it. I actually hope it is a refin and price is reduced as a result. Any way to tell if the pickups are original?

I'd say yes judging from the neck pocket and normally the finish doesn't crack/check that way, bridge pickup doesn't look to be original either, unless they used ceramic pickups for the bridge pickup and rod magnets for the neck. I also thought that they kept the pickup cover and switch tips the same colour. but then again im not a huge mustang buff, someone should be able to chime in on the details

Finish and pickguard are definitely not original.

I would say that these parts aren't original (though I'm by no means an expert on period correctness)

Body finish
Neck finish
Bridge pickup
Pickguard
Pickup covers

That finish doesn't even appear to be Nitro IMO - looks like a bad Poly job. It looks like a body from one of the 70s models which had the finish problems...

I don't know anything about 70s models - but could this be a 70-something body with a '64 neck and pickup?

Reference my finish comment here:

It looks much more likely to be a DIY finish of a 60s body.

what is it about the neck pocket that is a problem?

A '64 would have an unfinished spot from the stick.

well, it's obviously a replacement neck pocket of course.

nah, he means the neck pocket is stamped '64. this is a really cool pre-cbs mustang IMO. it's no where near perfect but still really cool just how it is.

It's slab body. I don't know if they made slab bodies later on but this one looks exactly like ones from the early years. I had a 64 body and don't remember a neck stamp, but the shielding was exactly as that and it was also a not that great DIY white refin and looked similar.

Mustangs got contours in 69 so if this were a later body it would have to be a Music Master or Bronco that was routed for the Mustang trem.

Looks like a legit 60's body to me.
