ok, this is maybe not the right timing, i'm really fucking brooooke but

i've been recording some more guitar lately and right now for dirt i have two pretty different fuzz boxes

an mxr blue box : alright for single note more mellow fuzz with lots of bass but not really much bite, it lacks in treble. good for subtle leads

a dwarfcraft tgd : my main fuzz, with the right knob all the way open it functions more like a usual fuzz with awesome bite, cuts through well but when you mute the strings you get a sound that you can control the pitch of with the middle two knobs, it sounds odd, it's great but sometimes you just don't want extra sound when you mute the strings.

i was listening to boris' 'akuma no uta' and the song on there that has no title, the guitar in that has such an awesome sound, it sounds so organic and just...massive ! i don't think it's just the gain of the amp used, i've no idea what pedal does it, if it's even that ramshead big muff etc, i don't know.
i don't want an exact same effect but basically this :

organic sounding
LOUD
lots of bite to cut through, no mids cutting, no treble and volume cutting like a blue box
i use a behringer dd400 with the 'feedback' knob almost all the way to the right but then i will always need that to generate feedback when i'm recording straight into my laptop, so some sort of pedal between fuzz and distortion that can generate lots of feedback too
lots of sustain, endless sustain ? haha
hairy sounding but when you want some chugga chugga or shreddings in there it keeps definition well and it doesn't start sounding like a mess
budget friendly

is this possible ? any recommendations ?

have you tried running the BB into the fuzz? or buy my crunchbox

yeah, but then i still get the tuned eeeeeehhhhhhs of the tgd when i mute, it sounds different with the blue box on it too but it's still something to weird, it's not like feedback from the guitar so for some things it gets in the way because it almost acts like a different instrument then and fills too much. if that makes sense


also i've been 'out of' checking pedals on a daily basis like an obsessed like i used to, i haven't been interested in new gear for so long so i'm a bit out of it.

you can palm-mute w/ TGD. gotta mess w/ the GAIN knob (the 3rd one). keep it somewhere b/w 10 & 12 o'clock.

I know what you mean about the TGD commanding alot of audio spectrum real estate. I used mine live for the first time a couple days ago.
It was at a pretty reasonable volume setting and still, when I squeezed it on, people stepped teh fuck back.

i love it for that but it's jsut that my only other option on my board is a blue box....that's a huuuuuge gap in pedal difference in both wierdness and loudness.

i'm not looking for a fuzz/dist that sounds more 'nice' i was looking at proguitarshop demos, most fuzzes sound too sterile not like what you hear on that boris song, it needs to be hairy not boring. tgd will always generate random sounds nomatter what setting, i've had it for a long time and it's really like that, and also not just that but it will not keep the guitar's feedback, it makes it its own sounds, which is cool, tgd can't be tamed, it has so much character it's an extra instrument. it's nice but if you use it all the time it becomes to samey sounding all the time.

i actually think my best bet will be pairing a big muff with something else yes. too bad i sold my us big muff.

TGD CAN be tamed. my question is, "Why would one want to tame it...???"

as i said, it's a weapon, use weapons sparingly for maximum wow effect.

i think pairing a big muff or something similar with that devi torn speaker or maybe zvex machine should be interesting..sounds pricey though. when i had my us big muff i didn't have my saltbooster though. dammiiiit. the thing is with tgd the 'regular' fuzz with the right knob all the way open i love how it sounds just janking chords out of your guitar it sounds so hairy and so much bite, just the mute thing that makes it go 'eeeeeeehhhhh' or 'oooooooohh' inbetween, sometimes it needs to shut the fuck up and let the guitar feedback !

That is pretty much what I expected Boris to sound like from the way people spoke about them and I love it, but when I downloaded them to see what they were like it was all very sparse and 19 minute songs. I liked it but it didn't blow me away.

Do want more of this sort of Boris.

akuma no uta is my fav album of theirs, it's like a journey into fuuzzz. the first and last track are actually the beginning and end of the same song. naki kyoku is a beatiful song.

also rainbow with michio kurihara is a good album but less heavy more psychedelic. heavy friends is a bit too much stoner music i think, i like it, but it's not as great as akuma no uta. i think pink is more similar to akuma no uta so you might like those two best. maybe amplifier worship but it's slower. re: i love this band. i think i will watch that video ends sent me feedbacker at skilight. but that's more noisy slow paced boris, their video of a show at shimokitazawa shelter has lots of stuff off akuma no uta, you might like:

fuzz factory? no bass though, that's the only problem. i use an EQ pedal with mine.

i don't listen to hipster metal. only Boris album i ever liked was that Feedbacker album. I'D RATHER LISTEN TO THE MELVINS.

fuzz factory it's a cool effect but a bit too compressed for this sort of sound

It's more hipster to decide you don't like a band because of fan associations than to decide you like them because of the music scene you associate yourself with expects you to.
