radiohead wonders!

How did, I think Ed, get this glockenspiel or keyboard sort of sound on the lead guitar in "No Surprises"? It is the guitar that starts the song and runs throughout?? Really lovely sound as well!! :)

Yup. It's quite a unique effect. Google "electric guitar" and you should get close.

He uses a Digitech Whammy Pitch Shifter Pedal. And reverb. Okay. I can understand. But would that get the glockenspiel kinda effect?

both of the greenwoods use digitech whammys but its just a pitch shifter an octave above
and i think theres a little bit of the original note still in there
and a digitch whammy is £150
a behringer us 600 is £40
and its gunna get you in the same ball park :)
its not gunna sound exactly like a glockenspiel
cuz its not and theres a glockenspiel played over the top
but theres a guitar playing the melody with a pitch shifter in there
you can also get the "my iron lung" riff sounds out of it to.
great pedal for the money

erm.
it's an electric guitar on the right and an actual glockenspiel on the left.

i'd say the best way to get that glockenspiel sound is probably a glockenspiel.

when they do it live jonny plays the glockenspiel and ed puts a capo on the 12th.

I know there is a Glockenspiel! I mean that sweet, light effect on the guitar. It sounds like a keyboard/glockenspiel to me.

Thom's playing acoustic capo'd at the 3rd fret, Ed's playing an electric (a rickenbacker usually) capo'd and octave higher (15th fret), and he's using a bit of reverb. It's not really that hard of a sound to cop if you've got a rick and a capo, but anything single coil-ish would work.

There's plenty of videos on YouTube of them playing it live that will give you a good idea of what they're doing.
I think you're pretty much covered from the tips given in this thread though.
