The Westerberg Rickenbacker is a 620 12 string. The Tom Petty Sig is a 660 12-String. Same body shape but the 660 has checkered binding, toaster pickups trapeze tailpiece and a wider fret board.

Here is the story about the Westerberg Rick 620. Yesterday I went to My Music Store in Golden Valley,MN.My friend Nick who works there says "I have something in the back you may be interested in."

I follow him to the back room and there,on a table is this new looking Rickenbacker case,so I say "Oh yeah,I am interested". He opens the case and inside is this 2005 Rickenbacker 360/12MG that looks brand new. I say "Ok,I want it." Then Nick hits me with this bombshell: this guitar had been traded in 2 hours ago. The guy who traded it in bought another Rickenbacker 12-String they had. THE ONE THAT USED TO BELONG TO PAUL WESTERBERG!

Apparently Paul had sold his Rickenbacker 620 to Jim Harms(My Music Store) several years ago and Jim had sold it to one of his customers. A couple of days ago that customer sold it back to Jim and then yesterday Jim sold it to a guy who traded in the 360/12

So the Westerberg's 620 sold 2 hours before I went to the store yesterday. That's why I said "Missed it by that much"

it seems he generally favors rics and 12 strings but he has played some other stuff. for example he's been known to play teles sometimes.

+1. Tom Petty has good taste. Earlier today I saw a pic of him playing an Olympic White JM, but I can't find it now.
