First off its very over priced, these go for £70 on a good day. You'd get a set neck Westbury Standard for less than what they are asking.
Still, they are quite decent, like a budget version between a Westbury/Vantage and Westone. I dont think any crap came from the Matsumoku factory by all accounts.

Matsumoku made many of the "lawsuit" guitars sold by Ibanez, Washburn, Aria... But then they actually produced the official Epiphones for awhile (the coveted MIJ models you may have read about on eBay auctions) Some are great and some are very average, and there's inbetweenies too...

They were sold by many different companies and ranged from dead-on copies of other guitars to tweaked, "in-the-style-of" oddballs.

If your after a bargain with this kind of stuff i'd search brand names rather than typing in 'matsumoku' or 'Lawsuit'. If its listed as that chances are the seller knows what they've got and is using it as a selling point.
Look for; Vantage, Westbury, Westone, Aria Pro II, Hondo, Cimar, CSL, Antoria (the old stuff).... finding a bargain branded Ibanez, Tokai or Yamaha usually means trawling through pages of shit for months.

I see the Matsumoku name mentioned a lot on ebay lately. I browse through quite a lot of these old Japanese listings and the quality of the guitars looks to vary massively even in the same factories. My ES-175 copy is from that factory and I rate it highly. I actually came across this Hondo but it didn't look that convincing to me. For that money you're getting into the lower end of the 'good stuff' and can find something with a not so well known name on the headstock like Antoria as Fran says, that is a great guitar.
