Hey shortscalers,

my name is cleo and i'm proud owner of a vintage mustang from 78. I'm from austria and really love indie/britrock.
I read here very often, but now I finally decided to post here.
Some may know me from OSG (Yeah, I know some of you hate that forum

)

yes, the maple neck is very cool and relatively uncommon. I have a '78 mustang too. the size and contours make it the most comfortable guitar I've ever played. small and fast, like a sports car!

another cool thing; stewart recently pointed out that the cutaways were changed in the late 70s. the upper horn is slightly more cutaway and on both sides they go up farther on the neck pocket. the change is sort of like the change between between a jazzmaster and jaguar. I really like how it looks.

Hey, thanks. No, I got it from MAXGuitars via ebay (1100 EUR with case and shipped).
I love Maplestangs!!!

@mage: yeah, its very fast to play..... i love it! The contours are perfect - I can jump around with it and nothing hurts

@kim: my setup was a mix between my own stuff and stuff of a friend of mine .....
...it was his VOX AC50 head on top of my ORANGE 1x12 cab on top of his VOX 4x12 cab

My amp is currently not working, so i had to borrow an amp

@DanHeron: Yeah I really dig The Cribs. Its a pity that Ryan Jarman doesn't play his Mustang anymore. (Its the same as mine,
look at the "Mirror Kissers" vid

) I'll see The Cribs this year on Frequency festival.

I've never heard of the difference in contours, does anyone have some pictures to demonstrate it?

Yeah, i like the cribs. I used to LOVE the cribs but have stopped listening a bit since then. Still, a great band. It was the cribs who first got me onto fender mustangs and thats how i ended up on shortscale, haha. To be honest I haven't given the new album a proper listen. From what I've heard it sounds good, I was always against Jonny Marr joining though... I liked the 3 piece set up and it was pretty unique having a band of 3 brothers.

yeah, it's not very well documented because not many people like 70s Fenders, especially shortscales. I wish stewart would pop in here and share a little more information, as I'm not sure on the exact years they made the various changes. I know they added the contours in the comp-stang era and then I think in the 70s they made some gradual changes and in the mid to late 70s changed the cutaways entirely.

i don't really know that much about the details, just something i've noticed occuring from 1978 onwards. you see it on broncos and musicmasters (and their bass equivalents) of that period, not just mustangs, obviously.
