New Songs from ma Band (studio)

Post by cobascis »

So as some of you know we went to a basement studio for $15 an hour. this is what came out. I know no one likes downloading.. but I couldn't get them to play from the site (maybe because they are .m4a?). Regardless, here is what came out of it. We are going back to keep mixing, and im doubling some guitar, adding leads, etc. But these are the rough takes. Without further adue..

Boat Song: http://semihollowbrain.lonelyfridge.com/01 Boat%20Song.m4a
Red Chair: http://semihollowbrain.lonelyfridge.com/02 The Red Chair.m4a
Strokes Song: http://semihollowbrain.lonelyfridge.com/04 Strokes Song.m4a

yeah the urls are terrible, you gotta copy paste it.

thanks

If you want, just copy/paste this block below over your original links.

Boat Song: http://semihollowbrain.lonelyfridge.com ... 20Song.m4a
Red Chair: http://semihollowbrain.lonelyfridge.com ... 0Chair.m4a
Strokes Song: http://semihollowbrain.lonelyfridge.com ... 20Song.m4a

I've just replaced the spaces in the URLs with %20, which how you should always link files with spaces in them -- not just here, but everywhere on the web. Even better is opting not to use filenames with spaces.

(This post was originally a ridiculously complex explanation, but no one cares about this crap anyway. More completely unnecessary info on the subject can be found here: Wikipedia - Percent encoding)

Anyway, they all sound fantastic. You guys sound very tight and well-rehearsed. What guitar were you using -- a Jag?

thanks!!!

I was using my jag, but unfortunately the lead circuit died, so that is all on the rhythm and a bit muddier than I would've like. for strokes song the bassman was cranked. :D

Wow, really? I don't think it sounds muddy at all -- and if you wouldn't have said anything, I would have guessed that was the exact sound you were going for. I've listened to these songs a bunch and I think the darker guitar tone fits perfectly.

If you're truly unhappy with it, definitely speak up during mixing to get it EQ'd to your liking.

No further progress, need to get back in the studio. It's tricky finding time the whole band can go with school and whatnot.

That is one we did at home into garageband. I love the guitar tone I got, but could never really replicate it. IIRC it was a Rat into a cranked Valve Junior. We did a studio version of this one but I haven't uploaded it.

Wow, that really sounds great. I like the agression in the guitar. Was that recorded with everyone going live in one take?

yeah.

our incredibly limited setup consists of all the mics going into a soundboard, but it is not a USB board, so it hits the computer via 1/8 in cable. this means there is no mixing at all other than EQ once recorded (lol). So we did it in one take and that was it, everything together in one room with lots of leakthrough.
