EHX Memory Toy... 3rd time lucky !! **now with VIDEO**

Post by othomas2 »

Received my Memory Toy today. This is the third one I've had... the first two were faulty on delivery.

I've spent the last few months looking around for other delays since sending back the second one. Other than the Carbon Copy (which I don't like)... there was nothing really on the market with similar features at that sort of price point / similar size etc etc. Hence why I took a chance again !!

Well it paid off, I'm very pleased with it and it does everything I want it too....

I would advise adjust the modulation trim pot half a turn clockwise for a more subtle effect. The modulation out of the box is very extreme on most, a distinct uncontrollable warble which I see has been the main complaint. This modification fixes all that.

This is what I read this on the EHX forum:
On the Memory Toy, there is a trim pot to adjust the modulation depth but not the modulation rate. The trim is labeled as TRIM8. There is an arrow pointing to TRIM8 with a bit of text on the PCB that says “Mod Depth.“

Turn TRIM8 clockwise to decrease the modulation depth. You’ll need a small screwdriver to do this and may want to start without power connected first. Once you have a good grasp on turning TRIM8 then you can apply power and listen to how the Mod depth changes as you turn TRIM8.

I recommend you do not touch any other trim pots unless you really know what you’re doing.

The modified modulation on actually gives a really nice chorus which I preferred over the small clone, very usable. Knocking all the knobs back give a nice slap back effect... not something I would normally want but again, sounds great. All in all... very happy and still very early days !!!

I want a Memory Boy but can't justify getting since I already have Line 6 DL4 and a small clone chorus.

taylor i have both of those pedals and I have a memory toy, to me the DL4 cant do long delays with lots of repeats, it fades too quick or oscillates to quick. I use my memory toy for volume swells pretty much.
