lefty shortscale recommendations

Post by rorika »

i'm just joining this site...wondering if anyone has an idea of where to find a lefty mustang bass? it seems to be impossible?
or any ideas of other lighter short scale basses that were made lefty? i have a 75 pbass right now.
thanks!

If you got an SG style bass you could just play a right-handed one as a lefty. Those are very available.

i don't think an sg bass or one of those EB's would be necessarily any lighter. i'd agree, that while i'm not looking for a lefty bass, i never see them available.

i'm pretty sure fender japan makes lefty mustang basses... a bigger lefties market there.

and if you're not happy with the pickups you could always invest in better ones, cij, mij built quality is pretty good, well i'm a fan anyway, lots of gloss, broken in feel.

or what james said, eb, but very different in both sound and feel.

i'm lefty and play a lefty p bass, is it too heavy ? i never really did mind since i started with a 5string bigass yamaha and switched to a p bass from that.. if that's it and the only reason you just want a lighter bass, doesn't have to be shortscale..i mean, shortscale bass doesn't mean automatically lighter does it ?
maybe hollowbody..but though they might be lighter the construction might be a bit more tricky than the shape of a p bass...

ibanez make light basses but the sound tends to lack character ..lack of middy goodness or something, that's what i always thought, can't really think of a bass that's much lighter but still has the awesomeness of a p bass though.. maybe because i never cared much about the weight and more about the sound and just deal with the weight.

yeah, tried turning a 71 univox hi-flyer over and it just sounded like a rubber band compared to the pbass!

just got back from japan...the schedule was so crazy that i only had time to look at 2 vintage guitar stores in tokyo. they called around for me and no one had anything lefty at the moment...it's a common scam there to sell new mij instruments with all the paperwork, etc. - but it's really made in china and i didn't want to make a mistake cos i was in a hurry.

it's not easy being small AND a lefty!

I'm lefty too, so I'm always on the lookout. Hofner recently reissued their Viola bass lefty McCartney style, I played one at a shop recently I loved the feel of it. It's really light too.

Do you have friends in Japan still? I'm looking for a roundabout way of obtaining Fender shortscale lefty necks which we can't get imported to the USA...

mcs ? thanks, it's my weirdo project. :P hvm is my punkband that never will be because we can't find a proper drummer.

making a lefty parts stang might take longer finding everything, putting it together but you'll have something unique.
i dunno, so far the only stangs i've found around vintage 70's ones.

it's stupid being lefty and some guitars just not being right to switch them to lefty, i always wanted a wal bass mk1, but they're so rare, exspensive...and i've never seen a lefty either.
