I have a question...

Ok. Imagine this scenario...
You try out a guitar in a guitar shop and it is the most ugly guitar you've ever seen: The body is a really odd shape that makes it uncomfortable to play standing up or sitting down, it balances terribly, it's a horrific colour, everything is wrong with it design and aesthetic wise. However it sounds amazing and plays beautifully...
So the question is. Would you buy it?

No, why compromise.
Unless it had some unique sound no other guitar got, which isn't that likely.
There are so many guitar makes past and present out there that anybody who puts in the time can find something that sounds great, looks great, and plays comfortable.

Uncomfortable to play? Nope - wouldn't buy it.

My thoughts exactly

Also I will add that "plays comfortable" is highly subjective. I don't think a guitar must be super-ergonomic to be playable.

Yeah, I was just trying to put down as much bad guitar stuff as possible

It's okay, dude -- just go ahead and buy that BC Rich Warlock! You don't need our approval.

i wouldn't, i'm superfical and prefer looks over anything, but i'm also not picky in guitar sound, and think different pickups can be a big difference already so i wouldn't buy an ugly guitar, if i see a guitar i will only want to play it if it invites me to play, you know, if it looks good, you just want to pick it up and play, it's like love lol or superficial love, i can't get past looks.

I'm one that goes by feel and sound a lot . If you love the sound and feel of the thing get it . The ugliness will grow on you ( at least it does me ) . ANytime I went by looks before I tried a guitar it lead me to disappointment . Gretsch Stumpomatic ? Loved the look , played like shit to me . Player's Jag ? Wanted to love it but to me it just didn't play right to me . Just recently played a Stargazer and Ultra 3 . Wanted to hate them but they sounded and played great . The ESP Ritchie Sambora ? Wanted to despise it . Played and sounded sweet . I wouldn't get the ESP but it's crossing my mind on the Geezer and the Ultra .
If you love the feel and sound go for it . Fuck it .

My thoughts EXACTLY. Embrace the easy playing modern metalish guitars dude. Somewhere along the line my playing tastes went from vintage strat/jag to charvel/ibanez jem.

I bought guitars that looked cool to me and got used to playing them, but never the other way around.

what amp were you playing through and should this be more of a consideration for purchase?

If it's uncomfortable to play, how can it play beautifully?
Also, no. I wouldn't buy it. I'm shallow.

Just to clarify to everybody I am not looking to buy a guitar. I just wanted to know what people would do if they were in this situation...

i guess for me, i wouldn't pick it up if it was hard to look at, so i wouldn't care how it played.

Yeah I think this is what most people would do. If a guitar doesn't suite your tastes visually chances are you won't ask to play it.

Yes all these points are bad, but will the chicks go wild when you’ve got your foot on a monitor giving it the guitars the star solo. cause as all guitarists know... it’s all about the chicks

I think it depends on how you define "uncomfortable"...example, I think Tele bodies are really uncomfortable, but I love 'em anyway. If it were uncomfortable because of the shape and balance (see: every Gibson guitar ever made that doesn't have an LP or SG shaped body) but I loved how the neck felt and how the guitar sounded overall, I'd probably still do it. So I guess the answer is, yes. Could always take some power tools to it
But if I thought it were absolutely hideous and not worth the effort to fix...then, no.
