give it to me, it will look better on me ! :P really when i hear this band i want to like them but it's not as raw as i like, like neutered punk a bass like this should punch you in the face with mids, like sy's youth against fascism but that was a ripper ? :(
this finish is really nice though, brownbrust, tobaccoburst..

one of our many past bassists has one, it was an absolute beast. quite uncomfortable to play without the bridge cover, as the edge of it is quite sharp.

edit: literally seconds after posting that picture i started watching a top of the pops 80s programme on the BBC iplayer, and what should come on first but a clip of adam and the ants, and the bassist had a ripper. (almost) freaky.

Epiphone make a version (called the Ripper?); the one I tried weighed a metric fuckton.

if it's metric, wouldn't it be a fuckgram or something?

love them to bits, every good hardcore band has one, for a reason too. they're beasts, if I ever played bass in a band situation I would for sure go for one. I like the ripper a lot too. which is the two pickup model.

I'm pretty sure these are the three variations:

Grabber - one pickup that slides up and down, flying v style headstock
Image
Image

Ripper - two pickups, chickenhead 4-way switch, EB style headstock
Image

Grabber G3 - three single coil pickups, toggle (3 way?), V style headstock.
Image

Epiphone's model was a "ripper" with a three way toggle and a P-J pickup config.

I know Botch's bass player used to use one of these. He plays in Russian Circles now...Or maybe he did.

Either way, his tone was without a doubt monstrous.

Krist Novoselic had two in the Nevermind era, one natural and one black. Not sure of they were ripper/grabber/one of each.

I've wanted a Ripper forever but not being much of a bassist never had the readies to splash on a whim. LOOK HOW HAPPY THEY MAKE GROWN MEN LOOK!

i like eb-3's a whole lot more than either of these but the grabber looks better than the ripper to my eyes.

It looks like Gibson just reissued the Ripper for a limited run.

I love those basses too. I've seen the epiphones go for pretty good prices and have thought about getting one one of these days. The bassist from The Receiving End of Sirens used one, and it always sounded pretty good to me.

didn't suzi quattro use one ? she looked good with it.

i like the black one, and can be switched lefty, but bass is not my main instrument anymore and my p bass is my workhorse for when i need it to so no need for a bass guitar investment. if it still was i would defo be very interested in the gibson reissues or old one.

These things died out for a good reason! Back in high school (ah, the late 80's...) I knew a guy with a grabber. Stupid heavy, mud tone, baseball bat neck. Pretty much no redeeming qualities. Sounds like just the sort of thing Gibson would reissue these days, dunnit?

Suzi Quattro would've looked good playing a first act bass and wearing a trash can liner! I've seen some pics of her with B.C. Rich's, and they never looked better.
