Title pretty much says it all, but how much does it cost for your local shop to set up your guitar?

We have two guitar shops, ted brown music, and music machine. Ted brown is pretty pricy when it comes to doing guitar work, not sure how much their full set ups cost, but I imagine its somewhere around the $45 mark. I think music machine would do it cheaper as they are a more personal store, There is a few ted browns through out Washington but only one music machine.

How much do your local guys do it for?

This thread just reminds me how much I hate my living situation.

Setups around me are $60. Don't ask me how.

I've paid for set ups in the past and they have been anywhere from £20 to £45 some including strings some without. I have to say the last one i had done was the best though and this was £30 with strings. As well as the action and intonation being adjusted, the pickup heights were optimised and the guitar and the electrics were cleaned as well.

Between £20 to £40, some will bullshit they had to do this and that extra but its usually; new strings, clean up, intonation and pup heights adjusted. Money for old rope in most cases.
I set guitars up for around a £10, but then, i am a soft twat and dont have a shop name above my front door.

I never payed for one, i do it myself. But i should get one done, to see if i'm doing anything wrong or could be doing something better. Here they ask for stupid amounts of money for set up, like from 50 euros up, the cheapest i've heard off is 40 euros. I really have trouble understanding how cleaning a guitar and tightening some screws can be worth that, specially when i doubt they take more than an hour doing this.

The guy I go to, Darren Riley (a bunch of people on here have bought parts from his website), was $40 last time for my bass setup and that was with a pack of strings. He's a great guy, reasonable rates, and he always over-estimates how long it will take to get it back to you, so it's always a surprise when he calls you after a week and a half when you thought it would be three.

Where I go is about 40-50 bucks . Unless you need frets shaved or tapped . Then you're talking 50$ an hour . But even that is fair I come to find out .

"My" store offered to do it for FREE, if I buy strings at the same time. Mind you, that only applies to the guitars I buy from them.

Pretty sweet, still.

$35 is what i used to pay my "guy" but i got wise and bought a $35 that included the tools so now i do it myself. I just gave the '64 Jag a full setup including new foam as the old stuff turned to tar...

it cost me a six pack of prb the only time i've had a guitar setup..
so that was about $9 (stupid taxes) and he supplied the strings ($7)
so...

yeah..

but i usually do all my own work, or the other guitarist in my band does it, depends on who has more free time.

Last time I paid 30 € including Duesenberg strings (that are 7 or 8 alone). But I tend to do most of it myself more and more, exept for nut filing so far.

hex wrenches, a screwdriver, a chromatic tuner, probably a feeler gauge. and ofc some experience so you don't break your truss rod

$40 and worth every penny. they'll take a stabby squier fretboard and make it smooth as silk.
