Mom theres something i have to break to you.....I'm a shredder. Traded in my strat today for a luscious Ibanez RG.
The finish has a sparkle to it, looks even sexier in person. Pickups are dimarzio.
The case is hardcore as shit and looks like something that belongs on a space station.

This isn't going to get any love from anyone but me and possibly paul and fran.
But I think it's fully rad.

This not only means i havent owned a shortscale guitar in years, but now i no longer own any fenders....crazy stuff. The frets on this thing are HUGE 6100. I think all shortscalers should own at least 1 superstrat

I'm going to get the Page Hamilton Sig ESP at some point, the gunmetal one not the pink.
But yeah, I agree.

a friend of mine has a prestige rg in galaxy white with a brown pickguard like that. Other than him keeping 9s on it i really like playing it. The single coil in the middle sounded pretty good but then he put two EMGs in it and got rid of the single coil and now i think it sounds like ass because his battery is dying now
I used to have an RG but i hated the floyd so traded it for a tele, haven't been back since

Any metal guitar can have nice cleans if you swap out the pickups.....I had a HSH samick at one time that I put a (now discontinued) GFS Brooklyn retrotron in the neck. It sounded fantastic even in that wank guitar. I think the guy from modest mouse had a floyd rose guitar with a filtertron in the bridge or something like that at one point.

My bro has an RG, its great fun to play and feels awesome. I cant shred for lobster, but for intricate riffs it slays.

I can't shred for shit but something in the shape of RGs brings out the 15 year old boy in me and I want to grow my hair and be angry again...
Thems were the days...

They're on clearance right now at MF for 800 i believe. I like it except for the lack of a floyd rose.

Nice cleans with an ibanez Jem
The pickups arent really super high output like i was expecting. I had to raise the bridge pickup a bit to get the kind of sustain i crave. The HSH setup offers some nice coil splitting options. Quickly! Every shortscaler run to your nearest store and try out some Ibanez's!!

Nice. I've always fancied the RGT42FM. How does it sound? Are there coil taps or anything? I think that'd be the first thing I would do to it, so that it's can manage every possible sound. I'm sure it plays great.
I'm not sure I could get on with the maple guard with those inlays, I dunno, I think that maple needs black inlays otherwise it can look a little washed out or something. I suppose those inlays look good along with the purple-grey guard though, and given the white body, black inlays probably wouldn't work. Is that white binding on the neck?

I wouldn't really class the RG's as metal guitars, more super-versatile, speedy guitars that can do metal very well (along with a plethora of other genres). Generally speaking they tend to be quite hot, but not in such a way as limits what they can do. I had a seven string RG for a while, and whilst it certainly handled the chuggity chuggity stuff very well, it was also great for just about everything else: bright country spankiness, warm bluesy runs, blues rock riffing, everything. I wish I still had that guitar.
