So I've bought Fran's Sound City 30C which is bloody brilliant except the reverb is a bit cack.

What I'd like to know is, if I swapped it out for a different tank would it make heaps of difference? It's an Accutronics cheapo type 1 (I'm guesing). Is it worth drilling the screws for a longer Twin-esque tank or should I get another short tank? I'd also like to know how people have got on with changeing reverb tanks. Quite interested and something not very often discussed.

I'm guessing it would as long as the tank didn't interfere with the speaker magnets or any other components? I'm not sure though, its pretty interesting though.

Do allparts still do their range of spring reverb tanks?

Is it a tube driven reverb? If yes maybe try to change the reverb driving tubes for stronger one. In my Twin I changed the 12AT7 in the reverb circuit for a 7025. The effect is massive.

A bigger tank will also help. But Im not sure if anyone will work / will work equally good.

I find discarded organs in the trash with some regularity, and I always try to strip them of their speakers (if not blown), knobs (if they have any- some don't) and reverb tanks.

Back in the mid 80's I had a godawful PEAVEY Backstage amp with a tiny little reverb tank. I found a 18" long one in an old Hammond organ, and swapped that for the stock one (it had to sit on top of the amp) and it sounded amazing. Turned up high, the sound was similar to the ending chords of Zeppelin's "OVER THE HILLS AND FAR AWAY," which I think Jimmy Page got by playing the 12-string neck of his doubleneck Gibson with the 6-string pickups turned on only.

It'll make a difference for sure, my Marshall head had a lousy sounding reverb so I pinched the tank from my old Laney head. Both were Accutronics, I'm fairly certain GOOD TANK was shorter with 3 springs versus BAD TANK'S longer size and 2 springs.
