Japanese Mustang

So my friend has found me a blue (with a competition stripe) Japanese Mustang for £325. Which I'm fairly certain is an AWESOME DEAL. When I get paid next week I'll have about enough money for it. I know I should be spending money on buying a provisional license and getting driving lessons at the moment, but I don't think this is the sort of deal that comes up regularly. So basically I want people to either tell me that this is an AWESOME DEAL and I'm an idiot for not jumping on it yet, or to tell me that this type of deal comes up all the time and I should wait until I don't have other things to pay for.

It's a good price, don't think it's an "AWESOME DEAL" though. I payed £300 for my 69 RI.
ThIS ONE on eBay will probably end around there too.
The comp RI's are harder to find though.

The comp stripes are usually higher priced though.

I'm surprised quite how many there seem to be on Gumtree over a period of time. That ebay one went for £350 in the end.

Can someone tell me the difference between a 65 RI Mustang, 69 RI Mustang, and 69 Comp Mustang RI?

What is the body wood on that Japanese Competition Mustang? Are the pickups the same as the Japanese 65' Reissue? Do the Japanese Competition Mustangs ever have Matching headstocks?

This. I even like the Brostang more and still miss the hell out of my Comp Stang reissue.

Basswood for the 69 reissues, Poplar for the 65s.
The 65s have better pickups that are supposed to be more accurate to the originals and also have brass shielding in the cavities.
Fender Japan does make Competition Mustangs with matching headstocks but they were never offered in the US so you have to find one on ebay or order one from Japan.

There are a few smaller differences too. The tuners on the 65 RI are white button tuners, the 69' has chrome ones. The pickguard on a 65 RI has gaps between the control plate and stuff, to resemble the shrinking that happens to vintage guards. The 69' RI doesn't have that.
Both are nice guitars.
