Dano Spring King, and alternatives (including DIY)

I want a Spring King. I love the whole idea of a pedal that will happily recreate all of those reverb crashes without having to boot my amp. But Spring Kings are a daft expensive pedal, and rarely come up on eBay. Would it be possible to create (or have somebody create) a similarly functioning pedal? The Spring King actually does have a little spring in it.

To be honest, they're more complicated than they look, and few units will work in-line like the Spring King does. Just save those pennies and save your mind, Watts.

Craig Anderton Stage Center Reverb.
You can hook it up to a reverb tank (mounted to the back of/under your board?) and you've got solid state spring reverb right on your board.
