This may be a bit dull but oh well, I was just wondering what you guys use.

Also I'm going to move up to 12s on my electric and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this gauge and know what brand is the best?

Cheers

Gabe

I'm a D'Addario 11's man.

I am too at the moment but I want a bit more balls in my sound. I don't down tune or anything though. I play alot of jazz and slide as well so the fat strings should help with that :)

I was just wondering if GHS 12's are as good as D'addario 12s.

MOST nickel-plated roundwound strings are pretty much the same. I like D'addario because they're good quality and available absolutely everywhere.

Are you looking at roundwound or flatwound?

Round wound, I'm not really a flat round fan. I think I'll go with D'addarios, I know how long they last and that theyre tough I guess.

Yh I used to love them, I honestly can't remember why I stopped using them. But I don't want a wound 3rd which is the problem the dean markleys as anything above an 11 comes with a wound string.

wound 3rd strings give more balls to your sound.

Don't they make strings bends harder though?

OOOOO Dean Markley's are GREAT. Forgot about them. The 11-52s with a wound 3rd were my go-to for years before I switched to flats.

aha see bends are a big part of my style so the plain 3rd was what I was leaning towards. I think I might get a set with a wound 3rd for my strat and see how I like them and on my other guitars use a plain 3rd hmm

makes the strat bridge pickup sound huge in my experience.

other than gauge or wound/plain, not many other factors are going to have that much of an effect on the sound.

in my experience.

10-52 roundwound for Fenders
11-48 roundwound on Gibsons
40-90 flatwound on bass

Martin silk and steel low tension folk strings on 6-string acoustic
have never bought same 12-string set twice

I wish I could still go super heavy, but a bit of frostbite 2 years ago killed my stamina.

'57 Dano U1 = 11-50 Flats tuned down a whole step
Schoen custom U1 = 10-46 rounds, wound 3rd, in standard
Alvarez 3/4 size = 12-52

fender jaguar- 13-56 i think? tuned down a half step
kay acoustic- dunno yet, prolly 12-52 or something, i just got it the other day and need new strings.
bass- dunno, whatever's cheap.

also, for me at least, string brand doesn't really matter, i usually use d'addarios buuuut, i'll use whatever's cheapest if i NEED strings and dont have much dough.

11's on everything

Ernie Ball Extra Slinky .008 - .038. My left hand kept hurting so I figured I'd do a Iommi. Standard tuning, though.

12-52 on most things.
If I could find a set of 11s with a wound G I'd probably go to them on some guitars.

Oh, and flatwounds on the Jaguar.

Usually 10's, Roto's or d'addario. But 13's with a wound G for tuning to A.
