Is this real or a parts guitar?

Post by taylornutt »

Saw this at a Guitar Center's used section. I think it says Gibson on the truss rod cover in the 3rd photo but Epiphone on the headstock. Not sure what I am looking at here.

It's an epiphone s-type from the 80s. I believe it's a s-310. Check out this s-800 superstrat.

I would almost buy it for the headstock alone and I love Sea foam Green.

Mustache had(has?) one. IIRC it had a Teisco gold foil pickup in the middle position.

A lot of Epiphones say Gibson vertically on the truss rod cover like that. I think pretty much all Korean ones did, and then when they moved production to Chinese factories (2004-ish?) the truss rod covers changed to the model name on them and changed shape slightly too where they meet the nut. My '96 Epi LP Custom and '96 Epi G400 both have that same truss cover with Gibson on it.

And that's definitely a real Epiphone and not a parts guitar, I remember when they sold those in AMS/MF catalogs when I was still in school.

I hate clones . Rather have an ugly original design than a clone . Call me crazy but I love when guitar companies show originality.
