Mustang Pickups originally Alnico or Ceramic?

I've been searching for this answer far and wide with no luck.
Were vintage Mustang pickups originally alnico or ceramic? How about US and Japanese reissues?

Even with the Japanese reissues? That's cool! When I did a side-by-side of the 64 and the 2002 JP RI I was surprised that they sounded very close. The more I play the RI I hear a bit of roughness around the high-end. Maybe it's those mini pots I need to replace 1st.

Yeah, differences are to be expected between any two guitars; not all parts are equal, and each little variation will affect sound (often not too noticeably)... especially when you compare 46 year old material to new stuff. Magnets lose strength over time for one, along with a host of other aging factors.
