So I picked up a Fender Cyclone a while back and just about have it done. I redid the guard on this guy instead of doing a full refin as I had originally planned (usually not a candy apple fan). Whoever had the guitar before had stripped the neck pickup and just left the Atomic Humbucker. :barf:

I installed a Duncan P-Rails with the Duncan Triple Shot mounting ring which contains the pickup switching controls. This gives you options for a series or parallel humbucker, P90 or single coil tones, all from one pickup. I'm getting new knobs in a few days and need to find some mounting ring screws that aren't rusted out. I have new strap end pins but haven't put them on yet. Due to the rusty screws and the old pickup, I swear this guitar must have been left in the rain at some point or some previous owner was a serious sweat machine. Enough with the jibber-jabber, here's some pics:

I too love the pickguard... I personally wouldn't have it on red but that's me... very nice guitar nonetheless.

Aye. Someone posted about these rings before. I think the general consensus was that it's a cool idea, but might not be workable in real life.

Do you not knock into them when you're playing?

It's still new to me, but I don't foresee them getting bumped unless you are intentionally going to switch. There's two small switches recessed into the side of the mounting ring. It made it super easy to install. You just solder the 4 corresponding wires from the pickup to a little coded circuit board on the mounting ring, then wire your hot and ground to the controls.

I'm really impressed with just how versatile this little guitar is going to be. Each of the 4 tone modes sounds great, really usable tones throughout.

I like your 'alternative' ideas, the pickup sounds versatile and id certainly like to hear a demo of the P90 setting.

Thanks! This was a beater when I got it, so figured no harm in experimentation. I'll work on getting some clips made. The P90 tone is what I was after and actually decided to go this route after looking at P90 options. I wanted to get a little more versatility out of it even though it was just a single pickup. I don't think I could have done better. The P90 will be my main sound, but the other tones are just as good.

Thanks... I did it myself using the guard that was on it and a little creativity.

Its very nice, I'd rather have that pickguard on a black guitar, but I think it looks pretty cool.

I hear ya, it bothered me a lot when it was stark white. Just didn't look right. It works for me in this state though.

Yeah, it extends a little further to the left side than a "standard" Mustang shaped / styled guard, but as you said, with that pickguard and on that guitar, it does seem to "work".

I think the shape of the PG on the left side overpowers the body shape. But much props for originality and doing something different.

great to see another p90 in use! Amazing pickups, everyone should have at least one in their guitar
