I've got a bit of a dilemma..
The BC Rich i bought has BDSM humbuckers which sound good in general, but they are more 'dark' sounding than the usual PAF so with our low tuning a lot of note clarity is lost. I dont really want to swap these out but at the same time i dont want the guitar sitting in a case forever because i have'nt.
I bought some humbucker size P90's (off Chisa i think) so im considering dropping these in. Out of interest, what pot/cap values do most of you go for with P90's or humbucker size P90s if it makes any difference?
The guitar has 500k pots and a .033 cap, which makes me wonder if i can brighten things up a bit with a .022 cap. That aside i dont want the guitar too bright.

I use 500k pots and a .022 cap with my p-rails. the p90 sounds like it should, thick but clear. plenty of high end without being too peaky

In my Epiphone Les Paul Jr. Limited Edition '57 Reissue I put a 500k volume and 300k tone as I believe was factory-standard for the Gibbys. I love the way that guitar sounds.

Fair enough though I did put a Lollar P-90 in there too.

I've found what the problem is; the P90 measures 7.1 on the multimeter and the bdsm measures 18.5
Good old bc rich. The output is too much for low tuning IMO, i tried the P90 in the bridge position and it's much better as far as clarity goes. On my home equipment anyway, it might be a different story at rehearsal.
The problem with our music is it's deceptive, it sounds heavy because of the tuning, there is very little saturation from distortion. The bdsm just is'nt suited.

I'll update after our next rehearsal. PS. This P90 has great tone, almost got a boner going through some riffage!

Thats one thing that always bothers me about people tuning so low and using high gain distortion pedals. It already sounds friggin sweet because its tuned down so low, a good marshally overdrive is all it takes really.

Totally agree. Im more a fan of the good old Tubescreamer than any other pedal, the only time i'll saturate stuff is to play some Slayer type stuff at home.
