Nels Cline on the Box of Metal

I love me some Nels Cline, and totally dig the use of effects outside of their original intended use. HAET those Bilt guitars though.
Nels Cline is very fond of the Box of Metal. He stopped by the shop during the fall of 2009 to show the team how he uses the pedal. He demonstrates that the stompbox can create many other tones and sounds outside what one would normally label 'metal'. Check out the video below of Nels Cline!

Watched this earlier on; I really wanted to enjoy it, and despite a ot of naysaying, I like ZVex pedals, and the Fuzz Factory demo got me buying pedals again.

But: meh.

I dig the look of the BILT guitars, always really wanted a Maurader. I think the onboard effects are a bit naff. Sounded great though.

When people talk about Ryan Adams, I say "lol this Westerberg wannabe has a name that sounds JUST like Bryan Adams".

This nelson guy is the spitting image of Bryan Adams!

I think those Bilt guitars would be good fun to play... I'd have one if I was mega rich more-money-than-sense like Nels Cline

Probably get bored of it after a while though. Seems like an expensive novelty

While I'm no offset-style fanboi (it's nice to see an improvising guitarist do well, but he's nowt that special, in my opinion) I don't think we can quite label him 'more money than sense'. I'd be surprised if he made any more money than any one of a number of us, for example.

Agreed. He possibly wouldn't be doing adverts for Zvex if it was the case.

I suppose if we assume he was 'sponsored' that might make a bit more sense. Either way, still a £1600 novelty for the rest of us

I suppose they're in the ballpark of vintage prices?

I think £1600 isn't too bad for a custom guitar - not that I'd be ready to pay it! Just compared to the other options out there, I don't think it sounds too bad.

I have the Vexter BOM and it's a lot of fun.

Compressed like crazy, fat, stupid amount of harmonics, great EQ, too much useful gain on tap, and messing with the gate can be fun, as Nels showed. Viva cascading mosfet action.

Sounds like you just wanted to diss Ryan Adams. He doesn't really look like him

I think this is my least favourite or inspiring Zvex pedal I've seen.
