I've been looking at these a bit lately and with there being so much love for them on here I thought I'd start a thread for some pictures, particularly of unusual ones. To get things started here's one in Firemist Gold (the owner posts at Offset) and a XII in Inca Silver.

Just the headstock but a supposedly original Sonic Blue finish.

I'm guessing the bigsby on yours is aftermarket?

Was going to ask the same question. Does anyone know the going rate for these in the UK?

the guy i bought it from claimed it came like that from the factory, but i think he was talking shite, to be honest. you never know though, there seems to be more variation with coronados than any other 60s fender. see the distinctly un-fender tailpiece on the top right, for example-

probably around £600 for a modded one, maybe £7-800 or so for a good condition but bog standard finish, up to £1000 for a wildwood or a XII, £1000+ for a custom colour, from what i've seen. you'd be looking at the same sort of prices for shipping one in from the US by the time you deal with postage, customs, etc.

It looks a lot like the LPB one in the group shot, but I remember from elsewhere that that one is a XII.
I didn't make this thread to talk about this, she unexpectedly sent me the first pictures of it after I did. I made it because the Gold one seemed quite unusual and like you say there is a lot of variation with these for some reason.

Nice one there James. You buy that from Elderly guitars?

argh i would love a coronado.
I know wildwood isn't such an unusual finish for them, but this example is pretty cool:
also check this prototype with 3+3 headstock, and a super fat body (could the image just be stretched?):

WHOA. that's fat. it's like an acoustic.
nah, I don't think it's stretched. the F doesn't look stretched. and you can see the neck has the bit comes out across the body like on an acoustic.

I found this video where they show the prototype:

Also, more coronados with bigsbys:

interesting, the video poster left this comment...
from Fender guitars expert (Johnny C):''VERY NICE! This guitar has the late-1967 pickups, so the serial number jives. I suspect that the Coronado wasn't doing as well as they hoped, and the Montegos and LTD were flops, so they went with a deeper body and a different neck. I doubt it was made special for a particular player as it has LOTS of changes over a stock version. Probably Roger Rossmeisl (the famous luthier who came from Rickenbacker) working late at night!''

Well if we're sharing our own...
ooh, you jammy fucker! that's lovely. i think the actual bridge is the same, but the part it rests on looks different. maybe a more stable aftermarket mod? you'll have to investigate.
i must admit (but keep it to yourselves shortscale) that the only coronado i'd consider exchanging mine for would be a LPB. or rather, if i were to buy another...

Mine has the jazzmaster/Jaguar style saddles. Does yours have the Mustang? The plate looks stock, but it's not something I've looked at a lot.

Both of the likely answers seem feasible. People adding them aftermarket or Fender adding them as an unmentioned optional extra. One thing that makes me think it was aftermarket is it undermines the Fender trem a little to include a different brand. But then the pickups weren't made by them for a while so it's possible.
I'd lean toward thinking that if you were to go to the hassle of ordering a bigsby you'd order a cutsom colour too, but then I guess maybe some people liked the sunburst or cherry.

Nah, just ebay. I'll make a proper thread with lots of pics once the weather is sunny and dry enough for the missus to take some outdoors.

i wonder if we could ask phil o'keefe nicely to speak to his mate at fender to see if bigsbys were ever offered as a custom option?

mine has the jag/jazz saddles too, and the bridge piece sits on a couple of adjustable screws through two wooden metal blocks (i've only just investigated those bits, i always assumed they were wood!). the whole thing is free floating and held down by string tension.
