Pat's vacation projects - Teisco EV-3T & Maya SG copy

well folks, one of the good things of being a teacher is the vacations. quite a lot of them, heh.
so i'm free for the next 6 weeks to do whatever i want, kinda... as long as wifey and baby are ok with it.

i've posted a shitload of things i wanted to do/accomplish last year and i didn't do shit. so i hope these 2 weird birds will make me get outta my bed and actually DO stuff on/for them.

first's an old Teisco EV-3T Vox copy. yes the 5-squared kinda teardrop with 3 pickups. butt ugly but still sooo cool. i remember some 2 or 3 years ago wanted to sell me one of these (all original but beat up) for $45 and i just couldn't bring myself to do it. what an ass i am, i know. now i paid quite a lot more for a non-working proyect. damn.
this one will need all new circuit, stip and refin, new tuners and an old teisco trem arm (which i happen to already have lying around). should be fun.

so... first of all... what color should i do on the teisco? it was originally white i think, but then stripped and "browned" with furniture poop-brown stain.

i fought for 3 hours with one of the damn neck screws. it was worn out and i had to beat the shit outta it, damaged the neckplate and a bit of wood under it but now it's off. i just realized the fretboard is kinda coming off on the top - SHIT this might become even more complicated than i thought.
i think tomorrow i'll begin with the sanding. still don't know if i should also sand the back of the neck. it's so nicely worn in...

the other is due to arrive in 2 days. it's an old beat up and chaply refinned Maya SG Std. copy with bigsby. no pots. i only saw some blurry pics but it was cheap enough to get it.
it will be stripped, refinned, new circuitry, bridge and God knows what more...

i've NEVER EVER been able to finish a guitar project...
hopefully this time....

Man, I love the looks of those EV-3Ts. Cool project. I've seen them in blue as well. Here's some pics I've saved of EV-3Ts and Californians.

Wow!

If you could just get that thing functional and play it, it would be so awesome and it has so much mojo! New paint and some TLC would make the guitar look even better.

Good luck with the project, I never seem to finish mine either.

I saw a mint Teisco Del Ray EV, like that blue one, in a pawnshop for $70 last summer.
Those aren't my thing but at that price, I positively HAET myself for not having grabbed it.

You know I don't think I've ever actually seen one of those in the wild. Plenty of Performers and Spirits but the Multiman S3 is a new one on me.

Creme would look great. Especially with a matching headstock.

The SG is cool, but is that a gold bridge? If so, gotta go.

yeah, personally I wouldn't sand down that neck, just the headstock. has it been stripped? it looks like they may have just painted the poo right over the creme.

nope... the creme is still in the cavity - MAN that sounds REAL dirty eh?! ... and you can see the wood. i don't think these came with a mary kay trans white. but THAT would look REALLY nice, damn!

i've decided to only sand down the body and headstock front. the neck is so deliciously worn in and dirty, that's just priceless!
thanks guys!
