Hello all. New here. Been on the lookout for a SuperSonic without much luck. And through countless searches I always end up here. So I thought it was time to join. I have built a small handfull of guitars with decent success. I've been itching for a shortscale to add to the collection. Just wondering if anyone knows where to find a template for a Supersonic? or if anyone with one plans to do some work on thiers if they might be willing to make a template of the body, pickguard, and jackplate while it's apart? Thanks in advance for your input. here are a few guitars of mine. the Epiphone is modded with Prails and tripple shots. I built and painted the Strat and P Bass with the help of Warmoth necks.

Here is one of two identical 72 Deluxe Teles I recently purchased.

Well, here's the thing. The SS has a very custom neck, and neck pocket. Now, I'm not going to discourage you from this, but you either have to have one specially made by a good luthier from a tracing with a normal neck pocket, or just buy one. I've seen them for $400, that's how much mine ran me.

Yeah I know about the odd neck plate. I plan to machine a piece of steel then nickel plate it and use the "strat style" neck pocket if possible.
this is why I want a template so I can mock up and see what route would be acceptable for me to take.

i would think the hardest part will be finding a neck.

I've found a guy localy that has a few 24 inch scale necks that he may be willing to part with. I'm not concerned with having a reverse headstock. I'm not going for a perfect replica, just as close as possible while keeping costs down.

No, you aren't quite following me.

You cannot put a normal neck on these. At all.

They have a weird tongue-in-groove neck and the heel is weird too. It isn't just the neck plate, the entire heel is crazy shaped.

You simply cannot directly copy a SS and put a neck on it. It will not work.

the butt of the neck is cut at about a 35 degree angle. on top of that the fretboard lam comes off straight and not at the angle.

it must have cost fender a fortune to make this thing for 2 or 3 years.

i wish i took very detailed photos of the nuts and bolts of this guitar before i had to sell mine

I get what your saying. but I dont think you get what my plans are and thats my fault. I dont plan to copy the design of the body exactly. I want a template for only the body basic shape with a neck pocket to accept the Jag style 24 inch scale neck. Really all I want is a template of the body, pickguard, and control plate. If there is something else keeping this setup from working please inform me. I'd love to see a picture of what you guys are talking about.

Okay, that was what I meant in the beginning, the only way to really do this is to route the neck pocket normally instead of a template.

I'd totally volunteer to make a tracing of mine except that I play it every day, it's my main guitar. I'll check back eventually and maybe I'll do it at some point if no one else steps up.

Yeah, I have no idea what Fender was fucking thinking when they made these. It makes no damn sense to make this weird of a neck pocket.

DawnofZion made one. He called his the Hypersonic. He slightly modified the design to have a string through body and eliminate the strat vibrato.

He gave me the pdf template and I plan on making one in the future. The plans are very detailed and show the guitar from every angle including the neck. I traced it on MDF board but have not cut it out yet. I will probably have to have a lefty mustang neck custom made for it. I could send it to you assuming it's okay with him. I added the pickup routes based on a picture he sent me of the body before he finished it.

Wow! Thats awesome I've seen another thread here with his hyper sonic. I even googled Wemmert guitars and came across his myspace. I messaged him but no word as of yet. I was hoping he would chime in. But if he's cool with it I would much appreciate the pdf.

I was thinking Stang trem, and DUDE, I'd like that template as well? Please? The sonic has become my favorite guitar, and I want to make a true lefty version of the shape...a template would help so much.

PM me your email address and I will email it directly to you. I eventually want to find a way we can post these guitar templates so any shortscaler can get to them easily. Any Admins have a good idea how we can do this? I currently have templates for supersonic, mustang, Jazzmaster and telecaster.

Could they be uploaded using mediafire, megaupload or similar, then the links could either be posted in a stickied thread at the top of the projects forum, or put somewhere in the wiki.
