A Gibson Les Paul Studio Goldtop with humbuckers?

Post by westtexasred »

"Stupido" at MLPF posted photos of his Les Paul Studio Goldtop(not the '50s Tribute). I never knew Gibson made a Studio LP like this . Ever see one before?

Those early 1980s studios came with binding and Tim Shaw PAF pickups.

You usually find them for around $800

Is that really a Studio Standard? all the others I have seen have dot inlays(and Studio TRC and speed knobs).

No it's a standard, I posted the wrong pic out of my guitar porn folder.

Did you see the link to the red one on eBay?

Found this on Wikipedia:
1983-1984 Models
All models made from 1983 until 1984, with the exception of Studio Custom and Studio Standard, featured alder carved topped bodies with set maple necks. The mahogany body and neck combination did not appear on a Les Paul Studio until 1985, per Gibson Customer Service.

Studio Custom
The Studio Custom was produced during 84-85. It was introduced before the design of the Studio was finalized, and mostly had the features of a Standard with a variety of features mixed in from other models. It had a mahogany neck, and mahogany body with a maple top; single-ply binding around the neck and 3-ply binding around the body; gold hardware with black pickup rings and pick guard. '84 models had two-piece tops, while '85 models had three-piece tops. The fingerboard was made from rosewood on some models, and ebony on others, and had Mother of Pearl dots for inlays, instead of the usual trapezoids. The neck profile was slim-tapered, like a Standard, and the frets were low, like a "Fretless Wonder" Custom. According to limited information from guitar forums, some of these had the sought-after Tim Shaw pickups.

Studio Standard
The Studio Standard was produced during 84-86, and was very similar to the Studio Custom, including the "dot" inlays, but had a single-ply binding around the body, chrome hardware, and white pickup rings and pick guard. It was also available in different colors, such as Cherry Sunburst.

...and as we are dorking out over Lesters

I really want a Les Paul Goddess "Ice Burst" (I hated the other Goddess finishes). I also hated the marketing behind it "it's a guitar for girls! hurr durr"

Some really interesting pickups, nickel grover tuners, single ply body binding and a hard case.

Anyway, here it is.
