my friend matt has a Ampeg V2 we think 55w tube amp from the 80's

it has speaker out selector 2om or 4om or 8om switch.

matt wants to build a cab for it, with a leslie and 3x12 speakers and other grab bag speakers smaller than 12"

i suggested running the amp at 8.

he wants to basically know if his amp is going to blow up if he plugs it into all this stuff running.

need help thx.

As long as the ohmage of the cab matches what you select on the switch, you're golden.

And remember if you parallel a higher and lower impedance speaker, the lower impedance one will end up taking most of the wattage.

a multimeter will be your best friend
wire up all the stuff anyway you want, and then set this to ohms and check it out.
switch the amp accordingly.
i think that makes sense!

Dude... 3x12 is an awesome idea... you could call it the Triforce!

He wants to put a Leslie in his bass cabinet? You do realise that by definition a Leslie speaker spins, right? It's not the sort of thing most people can generally make in their basements, unless they happen to be Donald Leslie.

And yeah, just learn about series/parallel wiring to make it 8 ohms, and it'll be fine. A 15" and 2 10" is a popular speaker setup, although generally in two different cabs.

Has he given any thought to crossovers and balancing the outputs of the different drivers .. no, forget it, I don't even want to go there.
