I was wondering if anyone owned any of these guitarsj, ust simply so i could get an idea of the quality.

For 100 quid, i'm not expecting anything spectacular, i just need a back up guitar.

They not bad. I had the Jag/Jazzy rip off, surprisingly it was solid alder and routed properly, decent finish too. The tuners let it down and the neck was'nt amazing. The 'Freeport' models supposed to be the best value out of the range. For £100 quid i'd get an Affinity Squier, they are quality.

You'd probably get a decent second hand matsumoku factory guitar for £100 too!

I've got a wesley cougar 2 bass.

Finish and fit isn't bad, but I'm not much a fan of the satin neck finish or gold hardware and the pickguard has no bevel.

I laughed when I read somewhere (wikipedia?) that the bassist from Biffy Clyro uses one.

Which guitar were you thinking of getting? I like the 'torino surf king' looks wierd and I like weird.

I wouldn't bet my life on the pickups not being shit either. My bass is dissapointingly weak sounding, but that might be cos I play it through a guitar amp?

Well it was the freeport i was looking at. I just love the way they look. I could put up with a gash neck if i could get a nice low action, and replacing the tuners won't be a big deal.

How do the stock pickups sound?

I'm not really looking for something that's going to sound great, i love muddyness and obscurity.

I've not played a freeport but i met a guy that had two he liked them so much. There should be reviews on Harmony Central.
Good point someone said about Matsumoku, although them guitars have risen in value you still should be able to get a Westone Thunder for £100 and they are proper MIJ quality.

I'll look into the matsumoku guitars.

Has anyone got an Xaviere guitar they could give a quick run down of build quality?

I've got an Xaviere Jazzmaster copy, it's great. Fit and finish are good, no visible flaws. Frets were leveled, but there were a few sharp ends. Thus far all I've had to do it it is replace the neck (various reasons, not a factory problem but a preference thing) and I'm about to replace the neck p90 because it's very microphonic.

I've got a wesley Acryl-o-caster in Acid Pink and I like it lots (for the looks as much as anything) but I did buy mainly for the body and with an aim to upgrade most of everything else. i haven't done this yet due to money and laziness but I spent several hours sorting out every aspect of the set up and it was a slinky enough player for Gavin to comment on it at Doogfest last year.

As to the construction - there was an over flattened last fret (next to the body) which shows they are spat out of a machine with minimal checking but other than that it was fine ESPECIALLY AS I ONLY PAID 65 QUID.

HOW DO AN 65 QUID YOU ASK?!

The dude sells on ebay and some are auctions. I could have spent 100 quid plus shipping from the site but I watched an ebay auction and was the only bidder at 65 quid plus around 12 quid shipping I think.

I thought 65 quid for a tasteless acid pink strat body and some spare parts was a steal to be honest. Here's my thread that shows the guitar:
