what's the cheapest route to getting a jag?

The original shortscale guitars; Mustangs, Duo-Sonics, Musicmasters, Jaguars, Broncos, Jag-stang, Jagmaster, Super-Sonic, Cyclone, and Toronados.

what's the cheapest route to getting a jag?

Post by Progrockabuse »

i've been thinking a lot recently about being a jaguar owner. I love the way these look/sound.
Progfest has been the catalyst for this, i blame mike and louis for tasty looking jag action.

There's no way i could afford vintage or usa made jags, but jap/mex jags could be my answer.

Is there such a thing as a well cheap jag? don't mind something i could modify. Just something around the £300-400 mark. Defo second hand at that kinda price. Ideas?

Is the trem a huge factor for you?
Cause those Blacktop jaguars are going to hit the street at $450 - $500
With a new guard and some jerry-rigging, you could convert it to single coil, like Haze did.

Otherwise, you're looking at the Classic Players. I've seen them used for about $600

A second CIJ is your cheapest option, on a good day you can pick one up for just under £300.
After that your looking at second hand CP Jags. If you go new with either your looking around £500 and for an extra couple of hundred on top of that you may pick an AVRI up, especially from the States.

you'd get a second hand jap one for 3-400 easy, as long as it isn't a fancy colour. the black HH jobs seem to go quite cheap.

second hand CIJ and upgrade to your liking. AVRI's can go for a lot of money but sometimes you'll find one cheap. Not 400 pounds cheap however.

Actually, it wouldn't make economic or practical sense to try to convert one of those Blacktops back to anything remotely Jaguarish, what with all the routing and replacement parts... Ignore.

no, but it's totally sensibly with the HHs I think, unless you really want the trem.

Well considering he's been smitten by a traditional vintage Jaguar i'd say avoid the Blacktop or HH, besides, Rob is'nt a big Humbucker fan.

Get a second hand CIJ Rob, i sold mine for £350 a few weeks ago... if your patient you'll get one in your price range.

don't know, a Fender Japan guitar should be easier and cheaper to have in Europe. There was a constant supply of these in the last 25 years.

That looks quite worryingly original... hmmm... faded finish / mute / shrunken guard, nice tort / matching head(possible) etc etc. Either this guys stolen an image of and original or this could be scam... or he doesn't know what he has. Or aged very quickly and nicely and they've popped a mute on there. I'd be cautious anyways.

And besides; he's said he wants a fucking Jag - Jags have trems: anything else is a shortscale superstrat with a Jag shaped body. I'm seldom a zealot about stuff like this, but Jags have trems. The best trems.

Rob, keep an eye on eBay, you'll get a burst for that money no worries.

yeah, it really does look like a vintage jag. klusons too? hmm...

he also states "no dings" but there's quite clearly a paint chip on the upper horn. i reckon he's just googled for a white jag image to stick on the ad rather than take a photo.
