It's stuff like this that makes me realize I really have waaay too much time on my hands and that it's high time for me to go back to work.
ughhh
I find myself having to fight VERY HARD not to send this guy a nasty, condescending email.
Earlier this week, "somebody" posted
this sob story, in the PERCUSSION section, no less. I guess he didn't get the replies he was hoping for...

The first ad has disappeared into the ether, but the second one is still there and is pretty amazing.
I wonder how someone can think that anybody would just give away to him a free electric guitar? He even has the nerve to request the brand and model!

I like how he thinks that saying he has a job somehow works in his favour.
The first ad said something like: "Looking for a cheaper than $50 guitar. Preferably electric. Don't tell me there's no such thing because I picked up a 1970 SG at the pawnshop for that much. I'm looking for OFFERS, not smart alec comments. In case you don't believe me about the SG thing, here's a pic."
in the ad he posted something like this
PHAHAHA! I guess that $50 "1970 SG" turned out to be a bad investment.

What's so weird about that? I've given away at least 3 guitars so far. Someone might be feeling generous.

yeah ... you shouldn't be picky about what you get (needs to be a Fender, lol ...) but asking is no prob I think. While 1st guy obviously has a guitar, maybe that's why he deleted?
I remember I wanted to get rid of an old, slow, worthless but working computer. I offered it for free in a paper and a lot of people wanted it to have something they could write letters on.

If my house was still full of random shitty guitar parts I'd totally give a parts guitar away to somebody. What's up with that?

To be honest it's probably a successful gambit especially in a country with a population like the US and you know, why not?. Years and years ago in Private Eye magazine there was always a couple of running adverts asking for money and for no reasons given. Given the relative cost of putting that advert in the mag (quite a bit) they where either doing quite well from it or barking mad.

Well, as far as the second ad goes, I don't think there's anything wrong with asking for freebies but the guy requests specifically a Squier or Fender stratocaster. I think if you want a handout, you should be grateful for whatever people want to give you.

Exactly. Choosy beggars and all.
Personally, I think if you have a job and the ONLY WAY you can think of getting a $125 Squier is by begging on the internet, you have more important things to do with your free time than learn to play guitar.

I dont mind the stupid ads on kijiji, they're good for a laugh.
What I do mind is when I post stuff for sale on there and some idiot emails me with a ridiculous offer on what I'm selling. Like a few months ago I was selling some radio control equipment, stuff I paid almost 800$ for and was hoping to get 400-500$ out of it, and some schmuck emailed me to tell me he was going to take it all for 100$ and pick it up the same afternoon.
or
I posted a big computer desk on there once and in the ad I specified that the thing was big and you needed a truck to come pick it up. I had people asking me if it would fit in their Intrepid, their Accord, even their Yaris.
Kijiji is nice and all but because its free it attracts a lot of numb nuts.

I don't know if it's like that everywhere but here, it's completely neurotic.
Just recently, a dude completely flipped out on me, over a series of emails, after I turned down his rather insulting lowball offer of $50 for a ribbon mic I was selling for $80 but that retails for $245. He had somehow convinced himself that I had been listing it for weeks and therefore, must have been hurting for the cash. His angle for the lowball was entirely supported by that assumption. He kept emailing me, telling me what an idiot he thought I was. I pointed out that he had already made that very clear by offering me $50 for an already heavily discounted item.
People will literally try to bully you into giving shit away for nothing, here. But on the upside, I had sold the mic 3 hours after posting it.
There exists a strange dichotomy of motivated, well informed, fair buyers and offensive, unrealistic tire kickers, in the classifieds scene here.

I think this really highlights what a positive and gentlemanly thing we have going on with the classifieds here!

Absolutely, there's no comparison but yeah, if it weren't for my systematic need to push gear fast (generally to fund other gear purchases), SS classifieds is the only place I'd ever consider offering my shit.

Absolutely true.
Every time I've tried selling something here on Craigslist or Kijiji, I get loads of emails from idiots offering me insultingly low lowball offers and they usually have the nerve to insinuate that they're doing me a favour by trying to rip me off. Nowadays I mostly just use ebay, it's much less hassle but unfortunately it's expensive with all the fees.

I sell most of my stuff via our kijiji thing, usually works well ... there's some fraud going on, but that is easy to recognize. FE, someone was offering a 62 Strat for 2800 € ... ad was in german and sounded serious. I wrote him to rethink his price, and got a messag ein english that I coul dbuy the guitar, but it would be sent from spain after I have paid
