Danelectro Cool Cat Fuzz equivalent but better?

I have a Danelectro Cool Cat Fuzz on my pedal board and it's getting a fair amount of usage as I really like the sound, however there are some aspects of the sound that I think could do with being improved. I'm guessing that the components used in the pedal are pretty cheapo due to the amount they sell the pedals for so i'm wondering if there are any pedals around that sound similar to the CC Fuzz but better using better quality components. I know it's supposed to be a clone of the Frantone Peach Fuzz but they cost megabucks so i'd be looking at something cheaper. If no equivalents are about can any of the fabulous pedal builders on the forum (Mike, Tim?) build me a Peach Fuzz clone?

To be honest I doubt the components cheap or otherwise are affecting the sound. If you don't like aspects of it it's most likely that you just don't like the way that particular fuzztone circuit affects the waveform, so a reproduction on the same lines would be equally unsatisfactory to you.

I do like the sound a lot, just wondered if it could be improved. I was thinking along the lines of when I had a Rat, which I really liked, but then I had it modified with an LM308 chip and it sounded loads better. Similar thing to all the Boss pedal mods that people do, changing a few things to improve the sound. Just wondered if getting a clone of the pedal that Danelectro apparently based their pedal on would sound any better, or if there were any similar pedals out there that I could look at or whether I should just stick with what I have and save some cash.

By the way, I had a very quick (and quiet) go with the tonebender this morning and it was sounding good. I could get some nice Zeppelin tones (think Whole Lotta Love) out of it. Looking forward to playing it a bit louder when I get a chance.

Glad to hear you like the Tonebender, I've been really chuffed with how those have been coming out.
