That was really cool, I never thought I'd be saying I liked the sound of a Line 6 but I actually did. Damn you just bust my brand snobbery

cheers. That is basically the point really. I hate brand snobbery in all forms..However I must admit I only tried the line 6 at progfest as a bit of a larf really. and was blown away.
I was convinced that tubes and vintage was the way to go...now I ain't so sure. It's a preference thing I guess, but for clean and pedals this amp does what it needs too.

and a bit of what it doesn't too (tuner, noise gate haha)

That really does sound excellent.

I know it's not what you're interested in, but how does the amps overdrive sound, like is there a decent "Marshall with tubes starting to break up" sound?

I've missed hurb demos.

To be honest I haven't really tried to get that sort of sound, as I have been too interested in trying different pedals through it. But I will say I just tried a saltbooster on the clean channel and got a really nice biting gritty sound very tube like.
Will have a crack at it to see what the overdrive is like. wont be able to record it today though.

Paul I just had a mess on the crunch model which is supposed to be this:

This model is based on* a '68 Marshall® "Plexi" 50-watt. Crunch "red" gives you a wide range of tones even at its highest gain settings.

And baring in mind I have no idea what I am doing, and am probably using totally the wrong guitar. I thought it sounded ok? like if you were to sit side by side I dunno if it would get wipped but to my ears it sonded cool.

Gain was probably set too high for what you wanted?

sweet, It's a very tweak able amp.

I've just watched the video for the Spider IV on the website, and I think they've managed to put me off again.

I like the Marshall because it's really versatile and loud as fuck. I like knowing that I have an amp that can do more or less everything fairly well. It's not a tube amp, but it sounds good and is certainly close enough for most applications. If the Spider can do that and more for not a lot more money then I'm laughing.

Also, the thought of a 150 watt 212 sitting atop a 412 cab is pretty appealing. For penile deficiency reasons, if nothing else.

Yeah the spider iv is packed with features...but i think it's too much in one package.

I bought this amp for £30+ a ds2 Now I think I got fairly lucky there, but they do come up pretty cheap on ebay I have noticed. I quite fancied the 212 myself.


A question though, the amp is open at the back. would it make any sense to put a back on it?

I'll be honest mate, my vintage only and brand snobbery days are about done. You just can't really knock some of the new equipment over the last few years, whether it be Line 6, Squier CV guitars, Behringer pedals or whatever. I still agree Tubes have their rightful place though (Master Charger being one of them).

Paul- The gain section on this amp is also good for such a small solid state package. There are four tweakable Distortion sections and four Overdrive sections which takes you from Clapton crunch to scooped Scott Ian. What's more the sounds hold up at rehearsal volume unlike a lot of Multi FX.
It falls short on the modulation section, a bit OTT there but the Delay and Reverb is excellent.

yep totally agree there. if they kept the tremolo and reverb you would have a really nice tidy section to the amp instead of the waste of time chorus/phaser shite.

Which Spider was it that looked really cool, like a tweed amp or something?

My friend has the Tweed version but im not sure what its called, he has the Valve 2x12 version too and that is a monster. The pedal board that comes with it looks the same as a M9.

Cool stuff; sounds great. I especially dug the bit of "Touch Me I'm Sick" thrown in there.

I used the octave fuzz in there to show how different fuzz pedals, sound like they should, instead of getting a load of tube breakup mixed in there.
