I can't really think of a situation where I would need to run a whole pedalboard and not have access to an electrical outlet.
And if I did, I'd have at least one bigger problem to worry about than powering my board.

This is what happens when you cross over from making shitty TVs to making guitar shit.

I don't see the point in it, if you've already got cables running to your amp, what is another one for mains power going to matter?

Looks like a good idea but if you have a large number of pedals on your board like me it seems like it would be pretty much useless.

Well I guess their angle is that it bypasses the whole ground loop issue.
Not that it's ever been a major concern but I've generally had success avoiding this by not powering stuff that's in the same signal chain from different outlets.
Conveniently enough, stuff in a signal chain tend to be setup close together but in the odd case that it's not:

As for hum and interference from the the power source, wouldn't you be likely to encounter these issues with your amp just as much as with your pedals? If you don't have a power conditioner for your amp, what good is it to have one for your effects?

Seems like a great idea to me. It's one less lead to be worried about on stage.

£120 is a bit pricey, though.

Unless you're able to power the pedals whilst it's charging, it's just one more niggle to have to remember before the day of a gig.

That's very true, aye. And I suppose it could present a problem if you're a band who likes jamming the day of the gig for a while.

Definitely has its drawbacks, but there are a couple of gigs where I really could have done with something like this. I remember one where it was a big stage and I had only brought my standard short extension lead (so used to playing tiny cramped venues) and it didn't reach from the power sockets at the back of the stage to the front where the mic was - ended up not using any pedals (amp footswitch for distortion) and had my wah pedal about half way back, where I would retreat to for a couple of solos. Was funny.
Having said that, wouldn't actually spend any money on it.

It would be cool with an EH Freedom Amp for busking.

But you know, you could just use batteries in that case. Unless this thing can power the high current 9v pedals that don't take batteries.

I like the fact that I never have to worry about batteries at all.I hate the idea of active pickups, wireless systems and batteries in pedals and never want to be in the position of a battery running out mid song etc. It all seems really unprofessional and I don't want to have to worry about anything other than playing to the best of my ability and having a great time. I always have an exstension cable on my board which goes to behind my amp and I don't see why any other guitar player with pedals wouldn't.

I'm yet to meet a gigging guitarist that uses batteries in their pedals and would consider changing from their power supplies to this.

We did a mini festival where they wanted us on for six songs and off with no set-up or tear-down time - bring your guitar and pedals, plug into the amp and go. They didn't want us messing about with plugging extension leads in to the back of the stage etc. That was a situation where batteries were required.

I'm pretty shocked Sanyo actually bothered making this for guitarists. Given the other products they make with a much broader market appeal.

I've gigged loads of times with just batteries. I always keep spares, just.

I'm putting together a pedal board at the minute. I'm fairly sure I'm going to design somewhere to keep a box of ten or so 9v batteries too.

If we're talking about professionalism, it seems odd to me to rely on being able to get access to as many plugs as you want. I've played gigs before where there was literally two sockets on the stage.

EDIT: On this subject, does anyone know if a box of batteries will discharge themselves? At work I've seen touring bands that will have a box filled with boxes of Duracell 9v's. I managed to acquire one box of batteries, and they all had plastic caps on the terminals. Will that stop them from discharging?

That's why I pack a 8 outlet powerbar in my gig bag.
At most, I need two outlets and that only happens when stage ergonomics makes me not want to power my effects board from the aux. outlet on the back of my amp.

Seriously, though even the cruddiest bars I've played in had multiple power outlets on stage, (most of the time, on the same ground) cause like... they're pretty essential.

As far as I know, batteries can accidentally discharge with each other when the terminals at the top accidentally touch the terminals of another battery, that'd be the reason for the plastic caps on top.

so strange. i could kind of see a use for this.. as i like my pedals up by the monitors, and not near my amp.. but as it stands i only use one pedal. so .. really, if i can't find a 9V at a gas station before a gig. i'll just tune the old way instead of via my pedal
